Manor of St. George Rich in Town History

by

Thomas R. Bayles

The old homestead of the historic "Tangier" Smith family at the Manor of St. George, Mastic, which still houses a descendant of the family, Miss Eugenie A.T. Smith. The house pictured above was erected about 1810. During the Revolution Americans from Connecticut ousted Tories from a fort on the Manor grounds, erected after the patriotic Smiths had been dispossessed. The cannon shown in the lower picture on the approximate site of the fort are of Civil War times, from a man of war.
