Hollowell, Paul Lewis

Paul Hollowell was born in Southampton, New York. He was the son of Ruth C. Wells and William J. Hollowell. Before entering the service he was employed by Island Coal and Lumber as a mill man in Medford. Hollowell enlisted in the army on October 10, 1940. He was sent to Camp Upton, Yaphank, New York. At the time of his induction, he was living in Middle Island.

Hollowell served honorably during the war with the Battery D, 198th CAAA where he received fire control and carpentry training. He was later transferred to Battery A of the 839th CAAA

Hollowell left the continental United States on February 11, 1944, from Boston on the ship Santa Rosa, and arrived at Swindown, England.

During the war Hollowell was actively involved in military engagements in Central Europe and Rhineland. He received ribbons for Good Conduct, European Theatre of Operations (ETO) and Victory Ribbons. He was not wounded during any battles during his service time.

Hollowell was discharged from the service on January 15, 1946 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
