William Smith

William Sidney Smith was born on February 21, 1873 at the family estate at Longwood in Ridge . He was the son of Robert and Cornelia (Thorne) Smith. As a young man he studied medicine at Columbia University. Before the war he had an established practice in Brooklyn. When war broke out in 1917, he enlisted in the medical Corps and was given the rank of Captain.

William S. Smith died in 1944

Dr. William Sidney Smith, who has been in a camp Iowa and was on his way to go over seas, spent Sunday at his home in Longwood adjoining Camp Upton.
