Patrick and Mary Doherty came over from Ireland and resided in College Point, Long Island until they bought a home on Long Island in Ridge. They had 7 sons.

Henry Patrick Doherty (shown at left), the oldest son, was born in College Point on July 27, 1920. He enlisted in the Marines in May 1942 and was assigned to the 5th Regiment of the 1st Marine Division. The Regiment distinguished itself in action at Guadalcanal, Eastern New Guinea, Peleliu and Okinawa. When he contracted malaria Henry was sent to New Zealand. He was discharged in October of 1945.
