Wendell Still

Wendell Still was born April 14, 1896 at Coram, New York. He was the son of Edward Stephen and Charlotte (Magilton) Still. In 1903, Wendell Still entered the Coram public school and remained there until 1910, at which time he became a student at Port Jefferson High School. He was graduated from the school in 1913.

Three years later, on July 11, 1917, Mr. Still enlisted in the United States Navy, and served on the USS Panther, the USS Pocahontas, USS America and the USS North Pole, with considerable time spent in foreign waters. He was discharged from the Navy with the rating of machinist’s mate second class, on April 14, 1919. In 1920 shortly after his return to civilian life, Mr Still purchased a truck farm on which in addition to vegetables, he raised poultry. Ten years later he began to concentrate on the production of broilers, and had the capacity to raise 250, 000 broilers a year. Years later he entered the oil business and became a wholesale distributor and retailer of fuel oil and kerosene.

Word was recently received from Wendell Still of the U. S. S. Panther that he had arrived safely at the naval base off the coast of France.

Coram August 30, 1918

Wendell S. Still, machinist’s mate, second class, of the U. S. S. Pocohantas, has returned to the ship after a seven days leave spent with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Still

Coram Feb. 14, 1919

Wendell S Still has sailed from Brest, France on the USS North Pole. This is his fourth trip.
