John Lyons


John Lyons was born on April 17, 1921 at Brooklyn New York. He was the son of Jennie (Byrnes) and Robert Lyons of Coram. Before the war he was employed as a mechanic at the Coram Garage and Machine Shop. He was inducted into the US Navy on June 26, 1944 at Patchogue, New York. Lyons left the United States on January 1, 1945 aboard the Cape Perpetual, arriving at the Philippines. He was assigned to the United States Navy Construction Battalion, Detachment 1067. While in the service he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation medal, Asiatic – Pacific Ribbon, and an American Theatre Ribbon. Lyons was discharged from the Navy after his return from the South Pacific on January 26, 1946 at Lido Beach, New York.
