Psst! We're moving!
Jian Xi felt a twinge of pain in her lower back when she saw the message.
He Ran sent another text: [If you’re at home, never mind, it’s too much trouble. I’ll pick you up for lunch tomorrow.]
After some thought, Jian Xi replied: [Okay.]
Then she turned around, picked out a supermarket, bought some milk and fruit, and headed to Yati Road.
He Ran was at home watching TV with his grandmother. He was almost driven mad by the drama.
“Why does it always rain whenever the main characters are emotionally confused?”
His grandmother was so engrossed that she kept muttering, “Such a pity, such good kids, that supporting actress is so wicked.”
Upon hearing He Ran’s comment, she scolded him, “What do you know, you brat? Rain is a natural phenomenon. Filming requires picking the right weather, which isn’t easy.”
He Ran was somewhat speechless, “That’s all done with water hoses.”
“Just keep quiet,” his grandmother retorted, refusing to believe him. “Go away if you aren’t going to watch. Don’t disturb me.”
He Ran stood up, “How naive and cute.”
He took his cigarette pack and lighter, preparing to smoke by the window. Just as he opened the window, there was a knock on the door.
The grandmother, being closer, hurriedly went to open the door, her small steps wobbling like a Weeble, “Coming, coming. It must be Little Yan from next door bringing over some peppercorns.”
He Ran didn’t pay much attention, biting on his cigarette ready to light it.
“Eh, oh.” The grandmother’s tone was filled with surprise after opening the door.
Jian Xi, wrapped in the night and cold wind, stood at the doorway and greeted with a smile, “Hello, Grandma. Is He Ran home?”
“Yes, yes, come in.”
Jian Xi handed over the fruit and milk, “This is for you.”
“Just come over, why bring anything? Look how polite you are.”
He Ran nearly dropped his cigarette, “Why are you here?”
There was a big temperature difference between inside and outside, so Jian Xi rubbed her hands together to warm them, “I came to see Grandma.”
“Sit down, sit down. There’s a brazier over there.” The old lady warmly invited her, her face beaming with joy, then turned to go to the kitchen.
“Cold?” He Ran walked over and held her hand, “Damn, it’s like ice.”
He placed her hand near the brazier and covered it, “Don’t move.”
He Ran asked, “Didn’t you say you weren’t coming?”
“Can’t I check up on you?” Jian Xi whispered softly, looking mischievously at him.
He Ran laughed, “Worried about me? No need to check, everything about me is yours to use.”
Jian Xi felt pleased inside, glancing toward the kitchen, “What’s Grandma doing?”
“Probably making something delicious for you.” He Ran teased her, “Dr. Jian, you came over late at night to meet my family. Are you head over heels for me?”
Jian Xi blushed deeply, pinching his nose firmly, “Yes, yes, yes, I’m crazy about you. Are you satisfied now?”
“Not yet.” He Ran caught her hand and brought it to his lips, his tongue flicking her fingertips, “Last night when I tried from behind, you resisted, crying and screaming. I didn’t dare put in much effort.”
Jian Xi quickly covered his mouth, “Will you stop?”
“How can I stop?” The mirth in He Ran’s eyes sparkled like flying embers, “There’s still a lifetime ahead.”
These words made Jian Xi’s heart flutter with excitement, and she quickly kissed He Ran on the cheek.
He Ran froze for a moment, then reacted, “Damn, I’ve been assaulted again.”
Jian Xi lifted her chin proudly, “Deal with it.”
Not long after, the grandmother brought out a bowl of sweet rice balls, “Come, come, have something warm to heat you up.”
Jian Xi quickly stepped forward to take it, “Thank you, Grandma. Please don’t bother, sit down and rest.”
“No trouble, no trouble.” She pushed He Ran aside and insisted on sitting next to Jian Xi, cheerfully asking, “Where did you come from?”
“The City Hall.”
“That’s quite far. Are you tired?”
“Not at all.” Jian Xi chewed on a glutinous rice ball, “Grandma, these are really delicious.”
“If you like them, come often. I’ll make them for you every day.”
He Ran watched the old lady practically floating with joy; it seemed she was very satisfied with Jian Xi.
This woman was also well-behaved, her appearance and mannerisms just what the elderly liked. She charmed the old lady more than a night of square dancing could.
Seeing them chatting animatedly, He Ran felt a bit jealous, “Can this discussion end? This entire female-oriented conversation, can you consider the feelings of the men around?”
“Alright, alright, I’m an old chatterbox. You young people go and enjoy yourselves.” The grandmother turned to Jian Xi again, “Come over for dinner tomorrow. I’ll buy a chicken.”
She lowered her voice, blinking seriously, “From now on, the drumsticks will be reserved for you.”
Jian Xi suppressed a laugh, raising her hand in assurance, “Understood, I’ll definitely finish eating.”
Leading Jian Xi into his bedroom, He Ran sighed, “Why do I feel like my status in the family has plummeted since you arrived?”
“Then I won’t come anymore.”
“You have to come, or someone will die.”
Jian Xi concealed a smile, “Who will die?”
He Ran moved closer step by step, cornering her against the wall, leaving her no escape but to indulge in mischief. Her hand was held by him, moving downward until it stopped at his crotch,
“...It.”
Jian Xi burned like fire, and her excitement caused her to squeeze without restraint.
“Shit!” He Ran cried out in pain, “What’s wrong with you, Jian Xi? Playing rough without mercy?”
Jian Xi nearly burst out laughing, feeling no guilt, “Our hospital’s urology department is pretty famous too, I’ll take you there tomorrow.”
“See nothing.” He Ran was still frowning in pain, “Tonight you lick it for me. That’ll settle it, or I’ll never let you off.”
Jian Xi said lightly, “Fine, never-ending it shall be.”
He Ran raised his chin, “Gaining courage? Hmm? Not afraid of me anymore? Is that so?”
Jian Xi made a sound, “Guess not.”
He Ran wasn’t angry, trailing his hand down her spine, poking her buttocks with his index finger, “Let’s try here tonight.”
Jian Xi broke free, pushing him, “Old pervert!”
He Ran whispered, half-smiling, half-warning, “Try challenging me again next time.”
Jian Xi softened, whispering, “Actually, I rather enjoyed being tested by you.”
“Fuck.” He Ran’s adrenaline surged; this woman’s words were deadly.
Jian Xi strolled around his bedroom, a bed and a desk visible, extremely simple to the naked eye. In the corner was a wardrobe; the grandmother had aired it out during the day, neatly folded underwear on top, and a few coats hung below.
He Ran hugged her from behind, “Dr. Jian, please inspect your territory fully.”
“What’s there to inspect in such a tiny place?” Jian Xi laughed, “Very tidy, doesn’t even look like a man lives here.”
He Ran frowned, “Have you seen other men’s rooms?”
“Lots of them.” Jian Xi’s voice rose slightly, “If you have any complaints, endure them.”
“Woman.” He Ran pinched her waist hard, his voice low, “Don’t leave tonight, hmm?”
Jian Xi’s face flushed, “No.”
“Don’t leave?” He Ran blew on her earlobe.
“Grandma’s at home, don’t cause trouble.” Jian Xi dodged.
“Old folks are sharp.” He Ran said, “Wouldn’t she know about my behavior?”
“I have work early in the morning.” It was far from the hospital, and if he messed around with her, she’d surely be late. Jian Xi wouldn’t fall for it.
He Ran chuckled softly, “If you don’t stay, I’ll find someone else.”
“Who’s stopping you?” Jian Xi said, “Go ahead, let me meet your old flames.”
“Damn.” He Ran muttered, “Would it kill you to be jealous for me?”
Jian Xi turned around, looking up at him, “Seriously, which number am I?”
He Ran furrowed his brows, exhaling slowly after a while, “What, planning something?”
“Can you count them on ten fingers?” Jian Xi teased.
He Ran thought carefully, then solemnly said, “A bit too many.”
Jian Xi’s face fell a little.
He Ran couldn’t bear to tease her further, scratching her nose, “What’s with you? Two jokes and your face shows everything.”
Jian Xi muttered, “Shows what?”
“Jealousy, obviously.” He Ran felt pleased but clarified, “No women is a lie. Before, there was only one I had feelings for, but that was years ago. Besides, unlike Lu Hanxiao, who messes around all the time, I’m very clean.”
Jian Xi didn’t respond.
He Ran smirked, “Doing that doesn’t require much practice, watching a few films is enough.”
Jian Xi was both amused and exasperated, punching him lightly, “Should I praise your extraordinary talent?”
“It has nothing to do with talent. Mainly, seeing you makes me full of energy.”
Jian Xi’s eyes shone, gazing at him with affection.
He Ran couldn’t handle it, “Damn, this loving gaze is killing me.”
Jian Xi suddenly tiptoed and whispered in his ear,
“He Ran, I really like you.”
Seven words, as light as water, yet quenching a man’s thirst.
Jian Xi’s decade was smooth like spring breeze, warmth and sincerity carved onto another person.
He Ran’s decade was arrogant and flamboyant, accumulating wealth, experiencing love and expectations within reach.
In their respective lives, they experienced betrayal, destitution, loss, and unattainable desires, yet met at some point in time and space. Life’s bitterness was all a prelude; meeting Jian Xi completed the sweetness.
He Ran’s eyes moistened, warm and heated.
“Dr. Jian, you’re quite bold today.”
Jian Xi kissed his ear again, “Is that not allowed?”
He Ran embraced her, “Absolutely allowed. Other than that, I have one request for you.”
He placed Jian Xi’s hand on his beating chest and said, “Please dominate me for life.”
The vibration of the phone stopped Jian Xi’s tears from falling. He Ran took out the call; it was Lin Jia.
“Brother Ran, where are you? Old Yao and the others are racing, do you want to come see?”
He Ran pressed the speakerphone button, looking at Jian Xi.
Jian Xi was interested, nodding at him.
“Alright, I’ll come over in a bit.” He Ran agreed.
“The usual place, Brother Ran, see you later.”
After finishing the call, Jian Xi eagerly asked, “What kind of racing? Motorcycles? Many people? Exciting?”
He Ran walked to the wardrobe, smiling, and took out a pair of leather gloves, “Not as exciting as when I’m messing with you.”
Jian Xi ignored him, putting on her scarf, “Let’s go.”

The motorcycle race was on the side of Yati Road, an unauthorized black race with gambling elements. Today’s scale was quite large, three rounds, nine motorcycles. As they approached, the roaring of throttles could be heard.
He Ran was a familiar face, getting greeted wherever he went.
Jian Xi, holding his hand, marveled, “You’ve got quite a reputation.”
He Ran held her hand tightly, “Cold?”
Jian Xi said, “With you holding my hand, I’m not cold.”
“You’ve been very obedient today.” He Ran gave her a perfect score, “I’ll reward you well when we get home.”
Old Yao waved enthusiastically from afar, “Brother Ran.”
Behind him was a crowd, all following suit.
He Ran went over to greet everyone individually, “What time does it start?”
“About ten minutes, soon.” Old Yao noticed Jian Xi, smiling, “Oh! Sister-in-law, hello!”
Jian Xi extended her hand amiably, “Hello.”
He Ran pushed them apart, urging Old Yao, “Go, go, go, move aside.”
As a result, the crowd shouted in unison, “Sis-ter-in-law, Hel-lo!”
Oh my, Jian Xi’s face nearly exploded.
He Ran laughed and cursed, “Bunch of wild kids.”
The two slipped onto the stage, checking the racers’ names and introductions, asking her, “Want to play? Place a bet.”
There were many people placing bets, surrounding the area in three or four layers. Tall beauties in short skirts despite the cold weather added extra flair.
Jian Xi asked, “Who’s better?”
He Ran pointed to the second racer, “Him, newly emerged, good skills.”
Jian Xi took out her wallet, rushed into the crowd, jumping while handing money to the host, “Bet on number two, bet on number two!”
He Ran was a bit stunned; she truly moved like a rabbit.
Jian Xi directly bet a thousand without hesitation, turning to He Ran, “Whatever you say, I trust you unconditionally.”
“Silly girl.” He Ran felt completely at ease, wrapping his arm around her waist, “Do you want to experience it yourself?”
“Experience what?”
“The race.”
He Ran quickly climbed onto the stage and spoke with someone in charge. Soon, he returned, “Come, let’s take a ride.”
They chose a spare motorcycle, its cool metallic paint gleaming. Jian Xi was thrilled, “Really? Are you going to take me? Can you take first place?”
He Ran directly responded, “Of course not. I used to risk my life alone, but with you riding, I’ll ensure you’re perfectly safe.”
Excitement overshadowed emotion. Jian Xi wore the specialized racing helmet, “Am I cool?”
He Ran also put on his helmet, “Not as cool as me.”
Jian Xi sat on the back seat, hugging his waist, shouting, “I’m not scared!”
He Ran laughed, “Who asked if you were scared? Rest assured, we’ll stay at the bottom, aiming to give you a thrill without exceeding sixty kilometers per hour.”
“Isn’t that lowering the quality of the race?”
“No problem, you’ll enhance the spectacle of the race.” He Ran reached back, pressing her head slightly, “Whose wife is this beautiful!”
Jian Xi bumped her helmet against He Ran’s, making loud clanging sounds. She shouted even louder, “He Lao’s wife!”
Her voice carried through the night wind.
It stirred He Ran’s heart like turbulent waves.
Big waves rose.
Two signal gunshots rang out “Bang Bang,” instantly, the roar of engines filled the sky. The flashy riders shot off like arrows, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Shouts and screams dispelled the winter night’s chill.
He Ran carried Jian Xi, steadily riding at the back.
Everywhere they passed, laughter and cheers erupted.
Unable to speak with helmets on, Jian Xi could only hold He Ran tightly.
In this moment, it felt like she was embracing the whole world.
Signal fireworks lit every five hundred meters, blurry figures receding along the way. The sound of the wind, the roar of the races, and the strong heartbeat of a passionate man echoed in her ears.
Jian Xi closed her eyes, her heart filled with bright white light.
In this radiant glow, she seemed to see the future.
Without a doubt, the two boldly claimed last place.
Removing their helmets, they were surrounded by jeers and laughter.
Old Yao: “Brother Ran, sorry, originally I wanted to bet on you winning, but my conscience hurt a bit.”
Lin Jia: “I worship you, brother, making a motorcycle perform like an electric scooter, so badass.”
Others shouted, “Brother Ran, when are you treating the neighbors to a wedding feast?”
Jian Xi felt like she was ascending to heaven. So this is what it feels like to reconcile with happiness.
“Jian Xi.”
“Hmm?”
She looked up, receiving a kiss.
Her ears exploded, her heart exploded, her whole body exploded.
Jian Xi heard the crackling sounds inside her body, her eyes filled with He Ran’s devoted expression.
The sweet pleasure, never tiresome.
As their lips parted, Jian Xi instinctively hugged his neck.
He Ran murmured deeply, “Holding on so tight, afraid I’ll leave?”
She hummed, her heart clawed like a cat, leaning close to his ear, “Not enough kisses.”
He Ran trembled slightly with laughter, “So, are you leaving tonight? Hmm?”
Jian Xi lowered her head, whispering softly.
He Ran froze, realizing he would die in her hands.
He pressed Jian Xi’s head against his body.
“Let’s go to a hotel, scream freely, challenge me to climax...”
Jian Xi licked her lips, burying her head in his shoulder.
“Your phone has been ringing for a while, answer it first.” He Ran patted her.
Jian Xi took it out of her bag, her expression slightly tightening.
She answered, “Mom?”
He Ran paused in the act of reaching for his cigarettes, silently watching.
Tao Xihong’s voice was cold and calm, “Xiao Xi, where are you?”
Jian Xi replied, “Outside.”
The other end remained silent, eerily quiet.
Jian Xi furrowed her brow, a sense of intuition rising.
She slowly turned her head.
The Benz window slid down in the dark night, Tao Xihong’s gaze frosty from the driver’s seat.
