Psst! We're moving!
Yu Chi had just finished taking a bath, and his hair was still wet. He stared at the phone screen, his hand drying his hair slowing down and stiffening as he gazed blankly at the word “Squeak.”
He had thought she didn’t remember it at all, but it turned out she still remembered that crazy secret code.
After waiting for a minute, there was no further reply from the other side, nor did she accept the transfer.
He tossed the towel aside, his face cold, and replied: 【Sister, what do you mean by “squeak”? Are you thinking of eating your words and coming back to me, or are you trying to get into bed with me?】
The other side showed “typing...”
Only a few seconds later, it suddenly disappeared.
Sheng Li’s mind suddenly cleared, realizing that her behavior recently had been a bit too eager. She did want to eat her words and get back together with Yu Chi, and she also wanted to sleep with him, but she wasn’t in a rush right now. It was all because this little brat Yu Chi was too good at holding back. In late October, during the filming of Vacation Restaurant , he vowed to win her back. At the film festival, he thanked her both overtly and covertly. He even gave up a safe, high-grossing commercial script to choose Xu Yuan , an artistic film, to support her.
Sheng Li didn’t know how many scripts he had declined or how he convinced Huang Baiyan to take on Xu Yuan . If the fans knew he gave up so much to chase after this blind first love, they would definitely criticize him for being too love-struck and lacking career ambition. Although his attitude towards her remained icy, he was indeed pursuing her. After all, if it weren’t for his efforts to facilitate this collaboration, who knows when they would have had months of time together.
But it had already been four months!
Did he really need to drag it out this long? Even adding her on WeChat was such a hassle; did he even intend to win her back?
Sheng Li contemplated for a while, suppressing her eagerness. This was only the first day of joining the production; no rush, there was plenty of time.
She accepted the payment and calmly replied: 【Little Brother misunderstood. I’ve never said “squeak” means I want to sleep with you. What? Do you only remember “squeak” when you think of me? Craving Sister’s body? Do you get hard just from my “squeak”?】
On the other side, there was no reply for a long time.
Sheng Li could already imagine him glaring coldly, wanting to call her a bitch.
Hmph, you chased me all the way to the set. Let’s see how much longer you can hold out.
Sheng Li lay down on the bed happily, then suddenly picked up her phone and glanced at the empty chat box.
Hmm?
Could she have hit the nail on the head?

The next morning, after a simple opening ceremony, Xu Yuan officially entered the shooting phase.
There were several filming locations for this movie, but most of the scenes were shot in this town. The background setting was between 1997 and 2010, spanning thirteen years. Compared to the present, this movie had a strong sense of nostalgia, and many scenes required building realistic sets in the studio.
Before shooting, Chen Yuan held the script and discussed the scenes with Sheng Li, Yu Chi, and Jing Yiming.
In 1997, in Ancheng Town, a murder and rape case occurred. Some evidence pointed directly at Xu Yuan’s father, Xu Yongliang. At that time, investigative methods were relatively backward, and there was no direct evidence proving Xu Yongliang’s innocence. Within a year, Xu Yongliang was executed. In those backward towns, people harbored deep hatred for murderers. From the day Xu Yongliang was arrested, Xu Yuan’s family was ostracized by their neighbors. Wherever they went, people pointed fingers and cursed them. Xu Yuan’s mother’s food stall was smashed, and Xu Yuan was bullied at school, called the daughter of a murderer...
As fate would have it, Xu Yuan and Zhou Luo, the son of the victim, were classmates. Before the case, the two budding teenagers secretly liked each other. After the incident, their relationship underwent a dramatic change. Xu Yuan was bullied at school, and Zhou Luo watched coldly.
Later, one winter night, Zhou Luo lured Xu Yuan out of town and sold her to human traffickers…
Art films emphasize delicate emotions and character tension. Sheng Li was initially attracted to the role of Xu Yuan. On the surface, she appeared flamboyantly bad, but despite all the hardships she endured, she maintained a pure heart.
Sheng Li once saw an interview with Chen Yuan where he said: “When I make movies, sometimes I like to shoot the key scenes or intimate scenes first. This quickly familiarizes the actors and allows them to enter their roles more swiftly. Even if we reshoot these scenes later, it doesn’t matter. This helps the actors quickly get into character, making subsequent scenes more harmonious.”
Sheng Li had filmed many kissing scenes, but not many bed scenes. The extent had always been limited since she primarily worked on TV dramas, which had stricter regulations for airing. Therefore, the scenes were not explicit.
Movies were different. For a few beautifully delicate shots, actors had to make greater sacrifices.
This movie was undoubtedly the most daring script Sheng Li had ever taken on.
Nervously clutching the script, Sheng Li feared Chen Yuan would ask her to film kissing and bed scenes right away. Fortunately, Chen Yuan glanced at the three of them and smiled at Yu Chi: “Lili and Yu Chi have worked together before. I’ve seen Jiangshan Scroll before, and your chemistry is excellent. Moreover, the character Cheng Nan has some similarities with Yang Lingfeng—both fall for the older sister in the story. However, Yang Lingfeng and Yun Lansheng ended tragically, leaving many viewers unsatisfied. In this script, Xu Yuan and Cheng Nan end up together, fulfilling the dream of the ‘Wind and Rain Rising CP’ to some extent.”
“Director, do you surf the web too?” Sheng Li was surprised.
Chen Yuan tapped the script against his palm and laughed, “Occasionally. It was after watching Jiangshan Scroll that I felt the role of Cheng Nan suits Yu Chi perfectly.”
So, when Sheng Li was considering the script, he had already mentioned it to Huang Baiyan. But Huang Baiyan directly refused. He didn’t push too hard since this movie didn’t guarantee box office success. It was a female-led film, and Yu Chi had many scripts to choose from, including predictable high-grossing commercial films with higher paychecks.
In the end, to everyone’s surprise, Yu Chi himself insisted on taking the role, which was an unexpected joy.
Sheng Li turned to look at Yu Chi. According to the character setup in the script, Cheng Nan was now a 24-year-old detective who had helped capture several criminal gangs involved in trafficking women and children.
Back then, Cheng Nan was Xu Yuan’s neighbor. Xu Yuan was six years older than him. Cheng Nan was the only child who didn’t harbor ill intentions towards Xu Yuan. When Xu Yuan was deceived by Zhou Luo and sold out of town at 17, Cheng Nan was the only one who knew about it. He told others that Xu Yuan’s disappearance was Zhou Luo’s doing, but the townsfolk refused to believe a 12-year-old child and there was no evidence.
Sheng Li had always wanted to see Yu Chi in a police uniform. He should look quite handsome. However, today’s scene had him dressed casually—in jeans, a black down jacket, and with his hair cut short. His facial features were sharp and clean-cut, and his stance seemed trained—upright and straight.
Listening to Chen Yuan explain the scene, he seemed to immerse himself in the role.
Perhaps sensing her gaze, Yu Chi glanced at her. In line with the character’s requirements, her makeup today was bold, her long hair curled, giving off a retro Hong Kong vibe. Her eyes flickered with allure, exuding charm. Her overall demeanor gave the first impression of a woman who was both wild and wicked, definitely not the virtuous housewife type.
It matched perfectly with the image of Xu Yuan in the script.
After Chen Yuan finished explaining the scene, he said, “Let’s do a test run.”
Sheng Li took a deep breath. Although it wasn’t a kissing or bed scene, this scene was still quite stimulating.
This scene took place years later when Xu Yongliang’s case was overturned, proving his innocence. The internet, newspapers, and TV were all reporting on this miscarriage of justice. But the man had been dead for so many years, Xu Yuan’s mother had committed suicide due to depression, and Xu Yuan had gone missing. The only remaining family member was an elderly grandmother.
On this day, Xu Yuan returned after twelve years of disappearance. This old hutong street was about to be demolished, and many people had already moved away. The old hutong was empty and quiet. When she returned, her grandmother wasn’t home, but the boxes of things she sent back were neatly stacked in the corner of the living room.
Just as she was about to leave, she ran into Cheng Nan at the door. Cheng Nan stood there staring at her for a long time, first glaring, then his eyes reddened. Xu Yuan was momentarily stunned, but soon she smiled and sat down on the sofa with composure, crossing her legs and lighting a cigarette. Her slender fingers, white as jade, painted with red nail polish, leisurely smoked as she looked at him: “Cheng Nan? I never expected you to grow up so handsome.”
Cheng Nan walked up to her emotionally and asked, “You started sending things to Grandma last year. Why didn’t you come back?”
He noticed a newspaper on the table, the headline reading “Thirteen-Year-Old Wrongful Case Finally Vindicated.” His anger subsided, and he softly said, “I just went to the cemetery. There were two bouquets of flowers on Uncle and Aunt’s graves. The caretaker said a very beautiful woman visited.”
Thus, he rushed back here, fearing she might disappear again.
“My grandmother has been taken care of by you, right? Thank you.” Xu Yuan blew out a smoke ring and suddenly remembered something, “Did you come looking for me before?”
Cheng Nan stared at her, “I’ve been looking for you all along.”
Xu Yuan made a sound of acknowledgment, “I thought it was Zhou Luo.”
So, she ran.
There were quite a few actresses in the industry who smoked, but Sheng Li didn’t smoke. She simply thought smoking was bad for the skin. Smoking was something she had just learned recently. Her posture was practiced, but as she smoked, she suddenly choked. Her eyes got a bit red, but since Chen Yuan didn’t yell “cut,” she continued acting—
“What are you doing now?” Xu Yuan raised an eyebrow and asked.
“Detective.” Cheng Nan said, “The kind that catches human traffickers. I’ve been looking for you.”
Xu Yuan was momentarily stunned, then burst out laughing, tears streaming down her face.
She stubbed out the cigarette, stood up, and walked over to him, “Come with me.”
Cheng Nan didn’t know what she was going to do and instinctively followed her into the room. Unexpectedly, as soon as Xu Yuan entered, she began taking off her coat, then her sweater, and finally her dress, leaving only a tight-fitting undershirt and black stockings.
Chen Yuan: “That’s enough. When we officially start filming later, take off the stockings and show up to the thigh area. It won’t be too revealing.”
Sheng Li sighed in relief and nodded, “Alright.”
Yu Chi glanced at Sheng Li’s straight legs, thinking about the extent of this movie. Though mentally prepared, he couldn’t help but frown. Sheng Li put her dress back on, looked up at Yu Chi, and saw him walk out expressionlessly.
This scene required clearing the set and adjusting the real-life scene. Chen Yuan turned to Sheng Li, “Get a male actor to teach Xu Yuan how to smoke.”
Sheng Li blinked and turned to Yu Chi, “Then let Little Brother Cheng Nan do it.”
“Does Yu Chi smoke too?” someone asked.
“Yes.” Yu Chi said indifferently, glancing at Sheng Li and reaching out his hand, “Give me your cigarette.”
Sheng Li said seriously, “Go smoke outside. Don’t pollute the air here.”
She took the pack of prop cigarettes for women and walked outside. Yu Chi squinted his eyes and followed her.
