Psst! We're moving!
Previously, Yu Chi was extremely busy because he hadn’t graduated yet. After graduation, Sheng Li discovered that this person seemed to have even more free time than she did. The main difference was that Sheng Li had debuted as a child actor and had mainly acted in TV dramas in the past, while Yu Chi, aside from The River and Mountains Scroll , hadn’t taken on any TV drama scripts.
He was a movie star.
From the very beginning, Huang Baiyan had positioned him for high-end projects, and all of his endorsements and advertisements were premium ones. After winning Best Actor, his market value doubled again, so every endorsement or advertising campaign Yu Chi took part in was carefully selected.
On Sheng Li’s side, there were still plenty of TV drama scripts being offered to her. At her current status, as long as she was interested in a script—whether it was for a movie or a TV drama—she would take it. Her commercial activities were also slightly more frequent than Yu Chi’s.
After their relationship went public, before accepting any public appearances or scripts, they would always check each other’s schedules to try to align their vacations and make time for their relationship.
This winter seemed to arrive earlier than usual. In early November, Sheng Li had just wrapped up filming a movie and spent three days at home with Yu Chi relaxing. Then Jiang Qing called her and asked, “Didn’t you mention before that you wanted to keep a cat? My cat gave birth to three kittens, but I can’t keep them all. I’m planning to give two away. You’ve seen them—they’re Ragdoll cats.”
Sheng Li used to own a cat, but she was too busy to take care of it most of the time, so later she sent it back to Ms. Lu to care for.
She immediately became interested: “Great! Are they in Beijing? I’m free these days, so I can go pick them up.”
Jiang Qing chuckled: “No rush. The kittens are still too young. Wait until they’re a little older, then you can take them. Let me ask first—are you sure you want one? If you do, I’ll hold one for you.”
“Thank you, Sister Qing. Do you guys have time recently? I’ll treat you and Teacher Jing to dinner.”
“No need to be so polite,” Jiang Qing laughed. “Jing Yiming is still on set. When he gets back, I’ll arrange something with you guys.”
They chatted for a bit longer, and after hanging up, Sheng Li walked over to the couch, straddled Yu Chi’s lap, hugged his neck, and smiled, “We don’t need to go pick a cat tomorrow. Sister Qing said she’d give us one—it’s a Ragdoll. Do you know what they look like?”
“I know. I’ve seen them on social media,” Yu Chi replied, wrapping his arms around her waist. He glanced down at his phone—Hu Yi Yang and Xu Yang were chatting in the group chat.
Hu Yi Yang had returned to Songshan City after graduation but came to Beijing for business trips several times a year.
In the group chat, Hu Yi Yang asked: [@Yu Chi @Xu Yang, hey big stars, I’m coming to Beijing tomorrow. Do you have time to meet up?]
Xu Yang: [Fatty One, you sure know how to pick your timing. I’m free tomorrow, so I’ll definitely host you.]
Hu Yi Yang: [What about the other big star?]
Yu Chi held his phone up to show Sheng Li and raised an eyebrow, “How about having dinner with them tomorrow?”
Last year during graduation season, Yu Chi brought Sheng Li along and treated Hu Yi Yang and Xu Yang to dinner. Hu Yi Yang was feeling quite conflicted about the situation, but when he toasted with Sheng Li and Yu Chi, he managed to say, “It’s good that the benefits stay in-house. It’s a happy occasion—I wish you both a hundred years of happiness together.”
Thinking back to it now, Sheng Li couldn’t help but chuckle. “Sure, ask them what they want to eat.”
Yu Chi recorded a voice message and sent it directly to the group.
Xu Yang: [Hot pot! Of course we should have hot pot in this weather.]
Hu Yi Yang: [Agreed!]
Yu Chi then asked: [Which place do you guys want to go to?]
Xu Yang: [Why don’t we buy ingredients and cook at your place?]
Xu Yang timidly added: [Or should we go to Sister Li’s place instead?]
When Yu Chi moved house last year, he posted about it on Weibo. Xu Yang, being a hot pot enthusiast, didn’t get to enjoy the meal at the time, so he later found an excuse to come over and indulge. Watching the screen, Sheng Li suggested, “Let’s have Yuan Yuan and Little Chen buy some ingredients tomorrow and invite them over as well.”
Sheng Li messaged Yuan Yuan on WeChat.
Yuan Yuan replied instantly: [Are we meeting at your place or Brother-in-law’s?]
Sheng Li looked up and locked eyes with Yu Chi. She blinked and asked, “Where are we hosting?”
Even though their relationship had been public for over a year, they hadn’t officially moved in together yet. But it hardly made a difference; whenever they returned to Beijing from out of town, they alternated between staying at Yu Chi’s place and Sheng Li’s home.
The reason they hadn’t fully moved in together was due to Huang Baiyan’s old-fashioned way of thinking. He believed that if Yu Chi were to move into Sheng Li’s place, it might not sound good to outsiders. What if someone accused him of being a gold digger?
As a result, Huang Baiyan unilaterally decided to renew Yu Chi’s lease for another year.
“Sister,” Yu Chi leaned back against the couch, lazily asking, “When are we moving in together?”
Sheng Li smiled sweetly, “Is there really any difference between our current arrangement and living together?”
Yu Chi countered, “No difference?”
Calmly, Sheng Li replied, “I just worry that Huang Baiyan will nag you again. Why does he become more paternalistic as he gets older? You’re already 23, and he’s still fussing over you like this.”
Her phone kept buzzing. Yu Chi glanced down, replied to Xu Yang: [My place.]
Sheng Li looked at his reply and messaged Yuan Yuan: [Brother-in-law’s place.]
After a moment, Yuan Yuan sent back: [Did Brother-in-law pay enough social security this year to qualify to buy a house?]
Sheng Li: [Why do you care whether he buys a house or not?]
Yuan Yuan: [I’ve been waiting for him to buy a house so I can see you guys finally move in together! It’s been a whole year!]
Yuan Yuan: [Do you know? Because you two haven’t officially moved in together, rarely appear together at events, and show affection less frequently, some CP fans are starting to suspect you’re breaking up! I’ve been debunking rumors in the CP forums till my legs feel like they’re about to fall off!]
