Psst! We're moving!
Leaving the hospital, Jiang Chengyu drove directly to SZ Restaurant. The road was slippery, so he drove extremely slowly.
He focused on the road conditions ahead, with no time to talk to Shen Tang.
Shen Tang would subconsciously place her hand on her lower abdomen, which was flat and toned with no excess flesh, showing no visible difference from normal.
Yet, it was miraculously nurturing her and Jiang Chengyu’s little lives.
One.
Perhaps two.
Another traffic light ahead. The car stopped steadily.
“Have you thought of a name yet?” Shen Tang tilted her head to look at Jiang Chengyu.
Jiang Chengyu: “I’ll think about it when we get back tonight.”
He had a few nicknames as backup, but he wasn’t particularly satisfied.
Shen Tang was immersed in joy; words could not express the happiness she felt at this moment.
She glanced at the traffic light; there were still over thirty seconds left.
“Husband.”
She turned sideways, reaching out both hands.
Jiang Chengyu didn’t know what she wanted. He leaned his upper body towards her, drawing closer. “What’s wrong?”
Shen Tang placed one hand on his shoulder and cupped his cheek with the other, tilting her head up to kiss his upper lip, holding it between her teeth, biting lightly as if to say something.
She wanted him to feel her joy and affection.
Jiang Chengyu propped his hand on the back of her seat, his left hand casually resting on the steering wheel, letting her kiss him and be affectionate.
Shen Tang roughly calculated the time in her mind. When the red light had ten seconds left, she released his lips. “Starting today, you can drink during social engagements.”
“I’ll try to reduce social engagements and come home earlier until you give birth,” Jiang Chengyu said, sitting upright. The green light ahead appeared, and he gently pressed the accelerator.
Along the way, they chatted occasionally, but most of the time they savored the excitement of the arrival of their little lives.
Just like their third anniversary, Jiang Chengyu ordered a cake for her. This time, the cake was even more miniature and exquisite, small enough to be held in one’s palm.
As soon as they arrived at the restaurant, the waiter brought out the cake.
There were two in total.
She usually only took a bite of high-calorie foods, so ordering two seemed like a waste.
“Why did you order two?” Shen Tang asked, puzzled.
“I owed you from last year; this makes up for it.”
Jiang Chengyu took out candles and inserted them into the cake, one shaped like the number 4 and the other like the number 5.
He found a lighter and lit the candles.
“Make a wish.”
Shen Tang thought for a moment about her wish. “I hope my pregnancy symptoms are mild.” She opened her eyes, just about to blow out the candles, when Jiang Chengyu reached out and blocked the candles. “Two cakes, two wishes.”
“You can do that?”
Jiang Chengyu: “Just for fun.”
Shen Tang made her wish earnestly: “If it’s a girl, I hope she can draw beautifully like Zhengzheng, and definitely not like me.”
She blew out the candles.
Jiang Chengyu told her not to have too high hopes: “Neither you nor I are very good at drawing. Zhengzheng’s artistic talent is inherited from my sister-in-law.”
Shen Tang smiled. “My expectations aren’t high. As long as you can tell what’s drawn, that’s enough.”
Jiang Chengyu remained silent, thinking that this expectation was actually quite high.
Neither she nor his mother could draw anything that resembled what it was supposed to be.
Shen Tang ate the cake. She was in a good mood today, so she allowed herself a few extra bites.
Jiang Chengyu returned to the other side of the table. While waiting for their meal, he took out today’s blood test report. The doctor had told them to get an ultrasound later, so he took out his phone to check his schedule for the upcoming week.
“Next Sunday, I’ll accompany you to the hospital for the check-up. Around forty days should be about right.”
Shen Tang was even more eager than he was to know if they were twins; she didn’t want to wait another day, wishing she could know the ultrasound results tomorrow.
She nodded. “Okay, I have time any day anyway.”
She only took three bites of each cake, giving the rest to Jiang Chengyu.
Over the next week, Shen Tang spent her days in anticipation and worry, concerned about whether the embryo was healthy, and also whether such a high HCG level was indeed due to twins.
When she had free time, she would ponder idly.
Finally, the weekend arrived.
Jiang Chengyu had booked an afternoon appointment. In the morning, they went to the company as usual. Jiang Chengyu had a negotiation meeting. Shen Tang was bored at home, so she decided to go to the company too.
The company had new projects, and Sister Li and others were working overtime today. The year was almost over, and Sister Li said they should push for year-end performance, aiming for a big bonus.
Yuanyuan was dressed very elegantly today, wearing a ready-to-wear long dress from L brand. The long dress was a birthday gift from Shen Tang on her twenty-seventh birthday.
Today, she followed Shen Tang’s stylist’s advice and wore her long hair down. She looked like a fairy in early spring, fresh and lovely.
Some colleagues who were unaware of the situation teased Yuanyuan, saying she looked so beautiful, clearly going on a date. “Confess honestly, when did you get a boyfriend?”
Where would she get a boyfriend? She had dressed up specifically for someone.
Yuanyuan: “No boyfriend. I just feel good wearing it.”
A colleague raised an eyebrow: “Tsk, believe you, my foot.”
A woman dresses up for someone who pleases her; suddenly dressing up so elaborately, it’s clearly for a reason.
A colleague put an arm around Yuanyuan’s shoulder. “The other day, our vice president said she’d introduce you to a boyfriend. Was it that one? When are you bringing him to meet us, your ‘maternal family’?”
The vice president had mentioned it last week during lunch, but it was just a casual remark. Later, the vice president went on a business trip and hadn’t returned yet. The company had also taken on new projects, and she was swamped with work, so there was no follow-up.
Yuanyuan: “I haven’t even seen what that person looks like. Where would I get a boyfriend?”
“Oh~~” The colleague put on a knowing, profound look. “No wonder you’re dressed so beautifully. So you’re going on a blind date, huh?”
Yuanyuan said helplessly, “It’s really not.”
But her dry denial was not convincing, as if she were hiding something.
“What’s wrong with a blind date? I also dressed myself up beautifully when I went on blind dates; there’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
“...”
They were chatting happily when Shen Tang arrived.
Shen Tang heard the word “blind date” from outside the door. “What are you talking about?”
“Sister Tang, we’re talking about Yuanyuan’s blind date tonight.”
The bodyguard glanced at Yuanyuan.
The colleague pointed at the dress Yuanyuan was wearing. “Isn’t it pretty?”
Shen Tang recognized it as the long dress she had given Yuanyuan. “A true fairy.”
However, she found it a bit strange that Yuanyuan was going on a blind date. Yesterday, Yuanyuan was still lamenting about how to pursue the bodyguard, and hadn’t mentioned anything about a blind date today.
Most likely, Yuanyuan was using it as an excuse for dressing up so grandly.
“Sister Tang, I...” Before Yuanyuan could explain, Shen Tang said, “You’re not young anymore, it’s time to consider finding a boyfriend. I don’t need the car today; Jiang Chengyu is picking me up, so you can use it.”
She turned to the bodyguard and said, “Tonight, you’ll take Yuanyuan to her blind date.”
Bodyguard: “...Okay.”
As soon as Yuanyuan heard the bodyguard would drive her, she suddenly stopped explaining that she wasn’t going on a blind date tonight. Would he feel a little disappointed or anxious if she went on a blind date?
“Thank you, Sister Tang.”
Shen Tang said with double meaning: “After it works out, you have to thank me properly.”
She returned to her office, and the others dispersed to get back to work.
As soon as Shen Tang entered her office, Yuanyuan knocked and entered right behind her.
After confirming that the bodyguard had gone to the lounge area, she closed the door and admitted frankly, “Sister Tang, I’m wearing this dress, but I’m actually not going on a blind date.”
Originally, the visual effect wasn’t that stunning. But after arriving at the company this morning, the stylist happened to be free and did her hair and makeup to suit the long dress.
She herself almost didn’t recognize her reflection in the mirror.
Shen Tang: “I know.”
She smiled. “Don’t waste this good opportunity tonight.”
Yuanyuan’s ears flushed, luckily hidden by her long hair.
At noon, Sister Li came to Shen Tang, showing her phone.
Five minutes ago, Chen Yinuo’s studio posted a lengthy message thanking her former management company for their pleasant cooperation and wishing each other better futures.
The former management company was Fan Yu’s company.
Some netizens discovered that Chen Yinuo was no longer a shareholder in her mother’s company, and the legal representative had been changed to Fan Yishuo, with Fan Yu as the largest shareholder.
Sister Li: “I heard from people in the industry that Chen Yinuo and Fan Yu had a falling out. She couldn’t stand her mother’s possessiveness.”
Shen Tang returned the phone to Sister Li, indifferent.
“I’m going to visit Chu Ran’s set this afternoon.” Sister Li asked her, “Do you want to come with me?”
Shen Tang planned to visit the set next week. “Jiang Chengyu and I have something else to do this afternoon.”
At two in the afternoon, Jiang Chengyu arrived on time to pick her up.
Shen Tang had slept for an hour and a half at noon and was now leaning on the sofa, reading.
There was a knock at the door.
“Come in.” Shen Tang looked up, and the tall figure appeared before her.
“Why didn’t you call me? I would have just come down.” She put down her book, placing it face down on the sofa.
Jiang Chengyu casually closed the door. “I just came over to see how you’re doing with those books.”
Her bookshelf was full now. Over the past few months, he had intermittently picked out hundreds of books for her, all ones he had read before and thought were good.
Shen Tang had promised to write a review after finishing each book to give him feedback. He had been looking forward to it after she said that, but so far, he hadn’t seen a single word of her reviews.
Jiang Chengyu eyed the bookshelf and asked, “How many have you finished?”
Shen Tang answered evasively, “I read when I have time.”
She kissed his chin, but before she reached his lips, Jiang Chengyu wrapped his arm around her shoulder and kissed her back.
His warm breath enveloped her.
They couldn’t be intimate right now, so their kiss quickly ended.
Jiang Chengyu: “You really haven’t finished a single one?”
Shen Tang pointed to the bottom shelf of the bookcase. “I’ve basically read those few on the right.”
Jiang Chengyu walked over and looked at what books she had read. “You’ve read so many and still haven’t written your reviews? There’s no word count requirement, a sentence or two is fine.”
He crouched in front of the bookshelf and pulled out those books.
Shen Tang leaned on his back. “I’ve read almost six books.”
Jiang Chengyu noticed a similar detail in the six books: the second to last page in each was dog-eared. “Is there some significance to that?”
Shen Tang rested her chin on his shoulder. “No significance. I just read up to the second to last page of each, but didn’t read the last page.” There was no significance, but her little plan was working perfectly.
“Why didn’t you finish them?”
“If I don’t finish them, I don’t have to write a review.”
“...”
Shen Tang leaned her face against his, rubbed it a few times, and then kissed the corner of his lips.
Jiang Chengyu slowly stood up, pulling her into his embrace. “How about this: from now on, every time you finish a book, I’ll write a review for you, and you can see if what I wrote is similar to what you thought.”
Shen Tang was delighted. “Are you sure you’ll write a review for every book for me?”
Jiang Chengyu nodded. “I’ve read all these books before, so I pretty much remember the content. If I don’t remember, I’ll read it again with you.”
If she weren’t pregnant, Shen Tang would surely have asked him to pick her up and toss her around.
Sometimes, she simply couldn’t get into reading, but now she had motivation.
Close to their appointment time, they went to the hospital.
Upon entering the ultrasound room and lying down, all of Shen Tang’s nervousness and worry from the past few days compressed into her chest, causing a dull ache.
Jiang Chengyu clutched her hand. “It’s okay.”
It wasn’t until the doctor informed them that it was twins and everything was normal that Shen Tang’s tears fell, tears of joy. At that moment, she truly wanted to shout with happiness.
Shen Tang realized that the happiest moments in life were always accompanied by tears.
Jiang Chengyu thanked the doctor twice and led Shen Tang away.
Stepping out of the ultrasound room, they suddenly forgot which way to go to the elevator, their minds filled with thoughts of their two babies. Fortunately, Jiang Chengyu’s bodyguard was waiting for them in the waiting area.
Shen Tang started smiling silently as she walked. Even with her mask on, people walking past her could tell she was beaming with happiness.
Shen Tang couldn’t remember how long they waited for the elevator, how many people were inside, or how long it took to get out of the hospital building, and neither could Jiang Chengyu.
Finally, they were back in the car.
Jiang Chengyu held her hand. “Carrying two fetuses will make your pregnancy very hard.”
Shen Tang said easily, “It’s okay, I’m happy.”
Jiang Chengyu looked at her; loving her for a lifetime still wouldn’t be enough.
Shen Tang began to look forward to it, wondering if they would be a boy and a girl, or two boys, or two girls.
On February 14th, at midnight, Jiang Chengyu timed it perfectly and sent the edited message to the group chat: [Shen Tang and I are having a baby! In five days, it will be four months. Dizygotic twins.]
He then @Fu Chenglin: [Congratulations, you have a younger brother and sister.]
The group chat exploded with this news.
