Psst! We're moving!
Falling into Chu Yao’s arms!
Isn’t this a cliché plotline from a cheesy idol drama?! And here she was, actually experiencing it herself! She would never criticize screenwriters for being overly dramatic ever again—because this feeling… it was simply too wonderful!
Jiang Beibei’s heart danced with joy, her inner emotions crashing like wild deer against a wall. Her eyes welled up with tears, on the verge of spilling over… she was so overwhelmed with excitement that she felt like crying!
She was in Chu Yao’s arms!
Chu Yao ah!!
“Yao Ge…” Jiang Beibei called out to him in a trembling voice.
Tang Xizhou nearly laughed himself into a fit, tapping his chopsticks and asking Chu Yao, “Did that hurt when she landed on you?”
Song Lang, oblivious to everything around him, focused solely on beating up Song Dawang. The poor dog howled loudly, trying desperately to escape the scene, sending fur flying everywhere.
Only Yan Qingming remained calm and collected, busy wrapping meat pancakes for Qin Yuan. Meanwhile, Qin Yuan, completely uninterested in food, crouched down with a pained expression, attempting to untangle the dog leash.
Song Dawang howled again, stubbornly circling around Beibei despite dodging Song Lang’s slaps, hoping to win her sympathy with cuteness.
Qin Yuan shouted, “Song Lang, just untie the dog leash!”
Song Lang barked back, “What are you talking about?! That leash didn’t come cheap!”
Qin Yuan nearly choked on his frustration.
Tang Xizhou burst into another round of laughter, pulling out his phone to snap a few pictures while commenting on how amusing the whole situation was.
Meanwhile, Yan Qingming stood apart from the chaos, concerned only with Qin Yuan’s stomach. He held up a meat pancake and said, “Qin Yuan, eat first. Don’t worry about Dawang.”
After putting his phone down, Tang Xizhou started clapping. “Alright, a lively scene! Xiao Yao, keep holding her. Is she heavy?”
“The dog’s a bit heavy,” Chu Yao replied.
He glanced down at Jiang Beibei briefly before averting his gaze, gently petting Song Dawang to comfort it.
Jiang Beibei’s face turned bright red, her body heating up as she nervously bit her fingers.
Song Lang came over to remove Song Dawang’s collar. Fearing another beating, the dog whimpered and burrowed deeper into Beibei’s arms, its paws pressing firmly against her chest.
At this point, Jiang Beibei panicked, letting out a startled yelp as she jumped up. She grabbed Song Dawang’s head with one hand and swiftly untied the rope knot.
Are you kidding me? Her modest chest relied entirely on her bra to maintain appearances. One paw from Song Dawang, and she’d be exposed!
Flustered, Jiang Beibei quickly loosened the leash, then fled from Chu Yao’s arms. As she slipped away, Chu Yao felt the sudden lightness, leaving him with an inexplicable sense of loss. All he heard was her saying, “I’m going home first!”
“You’re leaving?” Chu Yao turned to ask her, but Jiang Beibei avoided his gaze awkwardly, turning her back to him.
“I’m leaving!” Jiang Beibei said resolutely.
Upon hearing this, Song Dawang glanced at Song Lang, who glared at him menacingly with narrowed eyes. Seeing no other option, the dog quickly followed Jiang Beibei, deciding to seek refuge at her place.
Jiang Beibei scooped up Song Dawang as cover.
Qin Yuan wasn’t satisfied—he hadn’t even spoken to Jiang Beibei yet, and now she was leaving.
“Beibei, don’t go just yet.”
Qin Yuan stopped her, pulling a small box from his pocket.
“A gift from Third Brother.”
“Huh? Why?” Jiang Beibei stared at the jewelry box, too intimidated to even reach out.
“A peace offering,” Qin Yuan explained. “Third Brother can’t let you suffer.”
“What do you mean? Third Brother, please don’t say things like that—it makes me embarrassed.” Jiang Beibei took several steps back, her foot already crossing the threshold.
Tang Xizhou called out, “Beibei, don’t you want the pork knuckles? Leave one for Qin Yuan, and the rest are yours.”
Caught between the pork knuckles, Chu Yao, and going home, Jiang Beibei hesitated for a moment before finally making the painful decision. “I’m full! See you tomorrow! Once again, congratulations to Elder Brother on your promotion!”
Song Lang roared, “Song Dawang! Who gave you the guts to run off?! Do you still want to come home or not?!”
Song Dawang let out a pitiful whine, and as soon as Jiang Beibei opened her door, it bolted inside, tail tucked between its legs.
Jiang Beibei quickly shut the door behind her, leaned against it, and stomped her feet in delight. “Ahhhh! Right into his arms!!”
Song Dawang circled around her, its doggy face filled with confusion.
After calming down, Jiang Beibei hugged Song Dawang tightly, rubbing its head fiercely. “Dawang! You did great!” I hereby appoint you my loyal dog eunuch!
Song Dawang wagged its tail furiously, creating a small whirlwind.
“Song Dawang, if only I could borrow your courage… If I had your boldness, I’d take the leap…”
Back downstairs, Tang Xizhou snatched the jewelry box from Qin Yuan’s hand and smacked him on the head with it.
“You really don’t know how to give gifts.” As he spoke, he opened the box to inspect its contents. “It’s not a ring, is it? You brat…”
“Of course not,” Qin Yuan replied. “Gifts shouldn’t be too oily. Giving a ring this early would scare her off.”
“Hmph, at least you understand that much. But if you can’t even figure out how to give a gift properly, should I call you stupid or just plain dumb?” Tang Xizhou held up a necklace with a diamond shaped like a swan, examining it from a distance.
“Elder Brother,” Tang Xizhou turned to Yan Qingming, “What’s the name of that brand again? The one with those little shiny stones priced ridiculously high.”
“It’s not that expensive,” Qin Yuan said, taking the necklace back and tossing it into Tang Xizhou’s arms. “Remember to give it to her.”
Suddenly, Song Lang chimed in, “Beibei has thin skin. If you give her something worth more than three digits individually, she’ll feel like she’s being eaten alive. So there’s a trick to giving her gifts—at the very least, you need to disguise it. For example, if I wanted to give her a big diamond one day, I’d hide it in her bubble tea. When I give it to her, I’d tell her there’s something inside and remind her not to throw it away after finishing the drink. That way, the gift is delivered without her realizing it. Got it?”
“Did you hear that?” Tang Xizhou tapped Qin Yuan’s head. “You’re not even as good as Song Lang.”
Qin Yuan was shocked. “Song Lang, are you saying…?” Could it be?
Song Lang replied, “This was actually Xiao Yao’s idea. I remember Xiao Yao summarized a few key points back then… Hmm, wait, Xiao Yao, didn’t you explain this to Qin Yuan?”
Chu Yao continued eating quietly, ignoring the conversation.
That sneaky bastard deliberately left me out, huh? Qin Yuan sulked, glancing sideways at Chu Yao.
Chu Yao finished his meal quickly, rolled up the remaining Yakult bottles, grabbed his coat, and headed upstairs.
Song Lang asked, “Eh? Xiao Yao’s leaving too? Help me lure Dawang back down.”
“Mm.”
Song Lang didn’t understand why, but he sensed the atmosphere had shifted. Just moments ago, everything had been so lively.
After Chu Yao left, Tang Xizhou turned to Qin Yuan and asked, “So, did the two of you talk things through?”
Qin Yuan nodded. “Not bad. After all, he used to be a detective.”
Tang Xizhou proudly declared, “There’s nothing that can escape my keen eye. In our unit, aside from Auntie Yao, everyone else’s observation skills pale in comparison to mine.”
The Auntie Yao he referred to was Chu Yao’s mother, Yao Lan—a legendary figure in the police force who always ranked first in every assessment during her time.
Seeing Yan Qingming’s calm demeanor, Qin Yuan curiously asked, “Elder Brother, did you figure it out too?”
Yan Qingming replied, “Whatever Xizhou knows, I’ll find out sooner or later.”
Only Song Lang was completely baffled, having no idea what they were talking about. “...What do you mean ‘talked things through’? What’s going on?”
Tang Xizhou burst into laughter. “Fourth Brother, if you had even the slightest bit of awareness, you’d be married by now. Your level of insight? Forget it—we’re not counting on you.”
Chu Yao knocked lightly on the door. After all these years, Jiang Beibei had long become familiar with his knock and immediately opened the door, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him expectantly.
“Yao Ge, are you done eating?”
“I forgot this.” Chu Yao handed her the row of Yakult bottles. He crouched down and patted his hands, and Song Dawang eagerly squeezed out from the edge of the door to lick his hand.
Taking advantage of the moment, Chu Yao grabbed Song Dawang. Realizing he’d been tricked, the dog began flailing its paws and whining loudly. Chu Yao held it down firmly and said, “You should rest early.”
“Okay.”
“...Remember to check.” Chu Yao’s gaze fell on the row of Yakult bottles.
After closing the door, Jiang Beibei flipped the Yakult bottles over and over, finally discovering a ticket hidden inside. Amidst the distant wails of Song Dawang being scolded downstairs, she whispered softly, “8 PM on the 29th… National Theater… Swan Lake?!”
Jiang Beibei excitedly pulled out the ticket, gasping in shock: “...VIP section?!”
No wonder Chu Yao had asked her a few days ago whether she had any plans for the evening of the 29th.
But why was there only one ticket?
Jiang Beibei picked up the phone and dialed.
“Yao Ge, I saw it.”
“Mm.”
“Um... Why is there only one?”
There was a long silence on the other end before a soft question came. “...Do you have other friends you want to invite?”
Jiang Beibei froze, then smacked herself on the forehead.
What was she thinking? Of course, he was giving it to her—it was naturally just one ticket! Did she really think he would include his own ticket for her to see?
Summoning her courage, Jiang Beibei asked, “Yao Ge... Are you going too?”
“It’s for you—I have work.” Chu Yao replied. “You go watch it.”
“...Oh.” Jiang Beibei pressed down on her sinking heart and thanked him. “Thank you, Yao Ge. I’ll treat you to something another time.”
“Mm.”
The call ended. Chu Yao gazed at her door and smiled faintly.
Suddenly, his mother’s palm swooped toward the back of his head like a gust of wind.
“What are you grinning about, you little thief!”
His father sat stoically in the living room, his face icy as he listened to a comedy routine.
Chu Yao turned around helplessly, frowning.
His mother scolded, “You sneaky brat! What’s that in your arms? Hand it over!”
Before Chu Yao could escape, his mother’s hand shot out like lightning, snatching the item away. Holding it up, she read aloud, “National Theater… Grand Ballet Swan Lake … For Beibei? Why did you buy such a lousy seat? Couldn’t you afford the VIP section?! Are you short on money?!”
Chu Yao sighed helplessly. “...It’s mine.”
“You stubborn fool!” His mother slapped him again. “Why didn’t you give Beibei one too!”
Chu Yao sighed deeply. “I did.”
“You did? After finally getting the chance to go out with someone, why did you buy such a terrible seat?!”
“This one’s mine,” Chu Yao, taking advantage of his height, snatched the ticket back and tucked it away safely. “I gave her a good seat. I still don’t know my work schedule for that day, so I bought this one randomly.”
His mother pointed at Chu Yao and turned to his father. “Old Chu, there’s something wrong with our son’s brain! What if he doesn’t have work that day? Does he really plan to sit separately from her? Oh heavens… I can’t take it anymore. There’s definitely something wrong with him!”
His father simply remarked, “You’re the one who gave birth to him.”
“...!” His mother choked for a moment but quickly resumed her rant. “If you had even a tenth of my boldness, Beibei would already be calling me Mom!”
Chu Yao shook his head helplessly and murmured softly, “She’s afraid of me.”
The situation was different… entirely different…
Chu Yao closed the door to his room.
His mother clenched her teeth and growled, “I’m so frustrated I could roll up my sleeves and take matters into my own hands! Truly, each generation is worse than the last!”
