Heimir
Þeir spurðu Heimi er hann að Rín
Hlymsdala kom úr borg :
“Heyrist oss gráta harpan þín.
Hvað veldur þeirri sorg ?”
Hún grætur frægan föður sinn,
fær seint það tjónið bætt,
hún grætur grimmu forlögin,
er gengu yfir hennar ætt.
Hún grætur harm og heiftarorð
og hjartans þungu neyð,
hún grætur sinnar móðurmorð
og margan rofinn eið.
Örlaganornin af réð má
allt hennar göfga kyn,
og svo er komið, að hún á
mig einan fyrir vin.
Heimir

Heimir
They asked Heimi, when he came from town
to the Rhine in the valley of Hlym:
"It seems as if your harp is crying.
What is the cause of that sorrow?"
She cries for the death of her famed father,
a loss that cannot be repaired.
She cries for the cruel fate,
that befell her family.
She cries for the grief and the angry words,
and the heart's heavy anguish.
She cries for the murder of her mother,
and the breaking of many oaths.
The Fates have killed
each one of her noble kin.
And now it is only me,
she has for a friend.
