Date Loaf Candy Aunt Ethel (Johnson)
3 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon butter
1 cup seeded and chopped dates
1 cup milk
1 cup candied cherries
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup marshmallows
1 cup nutmeats
Cook sugar, milk, butter and salt to soft ball stage ‑ 236 degrees F. Add cherries and dates and cook to firm ball in cold water. Add marshmallows Cool, add flavoring, beat until thick. Add nutmeats. Pour into buttered pan.
