The article examines the use of digital technologies, particularly chatbots, in English language learning at higher education institutions. The focus is placed on the importance of individualized learning, which adapts the educational process to students’ needs, pace, and proficiency levels. The paper analyzes modern methodological approaches as tools for enhancing language education. It presents an algorithm for developing an educational chatbot and explores its potential for improving students’ communicative competence. The findings indicate that integrating artificial intelligence and digital tools fosters personalization, motivation, and the overall effectiveness of English language acquisition.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AS A TOOL FOR INDIVIDUALIZATION OF LINGUISTIC TRAINING OF HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS

Abstract
Background: The rapid development of digital technologies in the 21st century has transformed the paradigm of higher education, shifting it from teacher-centered models toward individualized, student-centered approaches. In linguistic education, digital tools such as interactive platforms, mobile applications, and AI-based chatbots have become essential in creating adaptive and engaging learning environments that meet students’ individual needs and promote autonomy in language acquisition.
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to determine the role of digital technologies in the individualization of linguistic training for university students and to explore how AI-powered tools, particularly chatbots, can enhance English language learning efficiency and personalization.
Results: The article analyzes current pedagogical approaches—communicative, interactive, constructivist, and contextual—that support individualized language learning. Chatbots are shown to promote authentic communication, improve confidence, and facilitate adaptive feedback, contributing to the development of linguistic competence and motivation among students.
Discussion: The findings confirm that digital technologies serve as powerful instruments for implementing individualized learning trajectories in higher education. Integrating chatbots and other AI-driven tools into English language instruction helps establish a balance between autonomy and guided practice, thereby enhancing engagement, creativity, and professional communication skills. Future studies should focus on evaluating long-term effects and refining models for integrating AI into linguistic education.
