Annotation.

Abstract.

THE QUESTION OF COMPLIANCE WITH THE STANDARDS OF POSITIONAL ALTERNATION OF У/ В IN THE EDUCATIONAL LITERATURE OF THE SIXTIES OF THE 20TH CENTURY

Abstract

Background: Formal adheres to the norm of positive alteration of у/в does not always correspond to an individual emotional and aesthetic perception of sonority. As a result today modern language practice often demonstrates the need to require a valid “Ukrainian spelling” in the relevant issue. It is necessary to investigate whether enough attention is paid to the categorical formulation of the rules of euphony.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to identify the degree of compliance with modern norms of positional alternation of у/в in the educational literature of the sixties of the 20th century.

Results: Based on the material of two textbooks of the sixties of the 20th century "Technical modeling" and "Handbook of elementary mathematics" we have explored the features of positional alternation of у/в as one of the most important means of achieving the euphony of the Ukrainian language. For this purpose, we have isolated 815 positions of alternation of у/в (euphonium). 69.6% of all processed cases are normative from the point of view of modern Ukrainian spelling and 30.4% of euphonems do not correspond to the norms of the current spelling.

On the basis of the analysis of different types of erroneous models in their comparison with normative. In this case the main reasons for non-observance of formal rules of positional alternation of у/в with a projection to modern normativeness have been outlined. A large percentage of erroneous models make one wonder whether the current norms of positional alternations of vowels and consonants are sufficiently balanced and well thought out.

Discussion: The rule that vowels do not match is indisputable, but it should be worded with the caveat "usually" as it is shown in the 1946 spelling rules. Features of articulation "в" and "у" (positional pronunciation of "y" as the infinitive) give grounds not to require speakers to use a vowel or consonant: the choice should be influenced not only by the sound environment, but also the melody of the phrase, intonation, preferences of the speaker.

We consider the analysis of scientific literature (articles, monographs) concerning observance of rules of positional alternation у/ в as a prospect for further research in this field.
