THE CONCEPT OF WAR IN THE LINGUISTIC WORLDVIEW OF UKRAINIAN, POLISH AND SPANISH STUDENTS: A SOCIOLINGUISTIC EXPERIMENT

Abstract

Background: Today, the issue of perception and communicative representation of the concept of war in the linguistic worldview of young people, in particular students of prestigious higher education institutions of different countries, who in the future are able to provide real assistance in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, is relevant. The study of this concept in the linguistic worldview of Ukrainian, Polish and Spanish students makes it possible to assess the specifics of the vision and perception of such a global social problem as war by the social strata of society selected for the sociolinguistic experiment.

Purpose: To realise the research goal, the following tasks have been identified: 1) to carry out a sociolinguistic experiment “The War in Ukraine through the Eyes of a Ukrainian / Polish / Spanish Student”; 2) on the basis of the results obtained, to establish the qualification features and peculiarities of the structure of the concept war in the linguistic worldview of Ukrainian, Polish and Spanish students; 3) to identify the universal features of the studied concept and the distinctive ones inherent in each of the national linguistic worldviews; 4) to propose a model of qualitative information content of the analysed concept, which can also become a means of social objectification.

Results: The article presents a comparative analysis of the structure of the concept of war in the linguistic worldview of Ukrainian, Polish and Spanish students of three higher education institutions: Vasyl' Stus Donetsk National University (Ukraine), University of Warsaw (Poland), University of Cordoba (Spain); the article considers common, universal features of the studied concept and distinctive ones inherent in each of the national linguistic worldviews; the author's methodology of sociolinguistic experiment as a means of describing the concept of war through the eyes of modern students from different countries is proposed.

Discussion: The article presents theoretical information on the study of the concept of war and describes the methodology of the sociolinguistic experiment. The results of the experiment are described and the structure of the war concept in the linguistic worldview of Ukrainian, Polish and Spanish students is analysed. A model of qualitative information content of the analysed concept is proposed.
