Poetonym as a reflection of the author’s individuallinguistic picture of the world (based on the poetry of Vasyl’ Stus) 

Abstract.

POETONYM AS A REFLECTION OF THE AUTHOR’S INDIVIDUAL LINGUISTIC PICTURE OF THE WORLD (BASED ON THE POETRY OF VASYL’ STUS)

Abstract

Background: The study of the lexical potential of a linguistic personality implies the determination of the regularities of poetonyms’ manifestation as markers of linguo individualization. The holistic interpretation of the poetic texts with proper names, the elucidation of peculiarities and intents of the linguo persona become possible through the interpretation of “secondary” names of literary origin.

Purpose: The aim of the study is to cognise and interpret the linguistic personality of Vasyl’ Stus by identifying semantically (symbolically) loaded poetonyms of the literary origion.

Results: The role of poetonyms (poetonymosphere) in the formation and reproduction of the author’s individual worldview is revealed. The semantic significance of historical and cultural poetonyms as representatives of Vasyl’ Stus’s worldview is underlined by the processes of transformation, reinterpretation of the traditional, building up and updating of existing meanings (change of semantics of usual conotonyms, contrasting relations of names with the source text, symbolization, etc.).

Discussion: The linguo persona of Vasyl’ Stus is constructed through borrowing and reinterpretation (modifications, semantic build-ups, etc.) of names of the literary origin. The definition of poetics, connections and relations between the names of the integral textual corpus of Vasyl’ Stus will make it possible to analyse the linguistic portrait of the writer thoroughly.

Ella Kravchenko is a Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor of Department of General and Applied Linguistics and Slavonic Philology at Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University.
