Annotation.

У статті проаналізовано особливості структури і функціювання суспільно-політичної неолексики в інтернет-комунікації на матеріалі інтернет-видання «Тиждень» і соціальної мережі «Твіттер». Визначено вплив глобальних і локальних факторів на українську інтернет-комунікацію у 2014–2019 рр., виділено продуктивні способи творення складних номінацій, описано параметри функціювання суспільно-політичних композитів, юкстапозитів, абревіатур і контамінатів у різних типах інтернет-комунікації.

Abstract.

NEW SOCIO-POLITICAL VOCABULARY IN INTERNET-COMMUNICATION: STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONING

Abstract

Background: Recent research provides profound evidence that technologies have become a powerful instrument to interfere in democratic processes and influence their results. Since Ukrainian online and social media are amongst Russian hybrid aggression targets, language used for discussing politics and ideological position is permanently reinforced with new lexical units.

Purpose: The paper aims to analyze new socio-political vocabulary derivational peculiarities and its functioning in Ukrainian internet communication during 2014–2019.

Results: During the examined period, Ukrainian internet communication specifics was deeply rooted into social and political life. Euromaidan (addressed as a social media protest), the outbreak of Russian hybrid aggression which filled online space with fake news and propaganda, uncertainty caused by election in 2019 are the external factors that created a lingual demand for expressive units. Bunch of socio-political neologisms has been used for labelling, irony and sarcasm, etc.

Comparing Ukrainian online media (Tyzhden) and social media (Twitter), we observed domination of compounding which allow to combine figurativeness of two and more stems. Compounds with jargon or pejorative components are considerably more common on Twitter than in online media, and they sometimes demonstrate the properties of hate speech. Participant of internet communication also add evaluative component to abbreviations, playing with units’ semantics or using assonant assosiations. Blends constitute a large part of new vocabulary, merging names of politicians, self-proclaimed states or social phenomena with slang or even obscene language.

Discussion: Conducted analysis provides a basis for further investigation of new socio-political vocabulary as an instrument of hybrid warfare and role of Russkiy mir ideology in Ukrainian society polarization.
