Grilling pizza gives it a unique smoky flavor and a perfectly crispy crust. This recipe shows how to make delicious, homemade pizza right on your grill, making it a great option for outdoor cooking and summer meals.
Ingredients:
1 package active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
½ cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ cup pizza sauce
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Toppings of your choice (pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc.)
Directions:
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand until frothy, about 5 to 10 minutes.
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 to 7 minutes.
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
Punch down dough and roll or stretch it out into a 12-inch circle.
Brush one side of the dough with olive oil and place it oil-side down on the grill grates. Grill for 2 to 3 minutes, or until grill marks appear and the dough is partially cooked.
Remove dough from grill and flip it over. Quickly spread pizza sauce over the grilled side, then sprinkle with cheese and toppings.
Return pizza to grill, cover, and cook for another 5 to 7 minutes, or until cheese is melted and crust is crisp.
Remove from grill, slice, and serve.
