This Homemade Mac and Cheese is a creamy, cheesy comfort food classic that’s easy to make from scratch. With a rich cheese sauce and tender pasta, it’s perfect as a satisfying side dish or a hearty main course.
Ingredients:
8 ounces elbow macaroni
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard (optional)
1/2 cup bread crumbs (optional for topping)
Directions:
Cook macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux.
Gradually whisk in milk, cooking and stirring constantly until the sauce thickens and bubbles.
Reduce heat to low, stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
Season with salt, pepper, and dry mustard if using.
Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni and stir well.
Optional: Pour into a baking dish, sprinkle with bread crumbs, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
