This spell creates a magical bond between a full size chest and a tiny replica. The full sized chest can be stashed on the Astral Plane and summoned using the replica.
Material Components. The caster must have an exquisitely crafted chest made of rare materials with the dimensions of roughly 2-ft. by 2-ft. by 3-ft. In addition, a tiny perfectly-crafted replica (dimensions in inches) must be made as well out of the same material. These components are considered to be unique to the caster and crafted only on demand. Note that complex locks or similar contraptions cannot be duplicated in the tiny replica. The chance of finding a master craftsman capable of this work is 50% adjusted by the size of the city (per GM). The cost of doing the work is 5,000 g.p. + (50-5,000) g.p. The replica costs 2,500 g.p. + (25-2,500) g.p. The work will take 1-12 months. The set is not consumed and future castings can use the chests after the duration expires.
When the spell is cast, the two chests are magically bonded, as is the caster.
The large chest is placed in a secret, random area located on the Astral Plane and can be summoned by the caster using the replica.
The inside of the large chest has a volume of 12 cubic feet. There is no weight limit. The caster can cause the chest to magically enlarge (incrementally in each dimension) to be able to hold one additional cubic foot of volume per caster level above 12th.
While the chest can hold anything that will fit in it, if a creature (of any kind) is placed inside and the caster attempts to return the large chest to the Astral Plane, there is a 75% (d%; 01-75) chance that the spell will fail, severing the magical bonds between the two chests. The spell must be recast in order to use the chests again.
Summon/Dismiss Chest. [innate] (major) The caster of the spell (only) that touches the replica can summon the large chest from the Astral Plane as an innate ability that does not require the casting of the spell. The chest will appear on the ground in an open adjacent area. If no solid ground or open area or is available, the summoning fails (but can be attempted again). See also Risks. Once on the Prime Plane, the caster can then use the replica to send the chest back to the Astral Plane as an innate ability that does not require another casting of the spell (until the duration expires).
Risks
Astral Portal. When the chest is summoned, a portal is opened to the astral plane connected to the chest. The GM will roll an Astral Random Encounter check of 5% when the chest is summoned (d%; 01-05 means something is attracted to the portal; ignore results calling for planar phenomena). This check is repeated each hour the chest is left on the Prime Plane for up to 5 hours, each check is cumulatively 1% lower than the first (ie. 4% the second hour, 3% the third, and so on). The motivations and possible actions of any creature encountered are determined by the GM based on the type of creature.
Discovery of the Chest. Between summonings, for each week the chest lies unsummoned on the Astral Plane, there is a 1% chance some being will discover it. If this occurs, the GM determine if the contents are disturbed—d%; 01-10: Chest is ignored; 11-20: Something is added; 21-50: All contents are exchanged for something else; 51-80: Something is taken; 81-00: Everything is gone. If something is added or exhanged, the GM may determine this randomly by the type of creature (rolling as per a Random Encounter) or, for exchanged items, a similar item may be found. For example, a spellbook may be replaced with a set of magical scrolls or a magical tome replaced with another magical book or even a spellbook. While the caster can add magical protections to the chest, many creatures traveling the planes possess magic resistance as well as other powerful abilities.
Loss due to Expired Duration. If the large chest is still on the Astral Plane when the duration expires, the bond is not broken and it can still be summoned. However, if the duration expires, there is a cumulative 5% chance per day that the chest will be lost due to the unraveling magical bond. If this occurs, the chest and contents should be considered to be destroyed.
Limitations. Only one set of chests can be bonded to any one caster at a time.
