This spell is cast alongside another spell, extending that spell's power in several ways.
The caster can add this spell to the casting of another spell, increasing the casting time of the spell to be affected by 2 segments.
The affected spell must be less than 4th level or the magic is wasted (the extension does not function).
The affected spell gains +50% to duration (for any duration longer than instantaneous and less than permanent or permanent until discharged).
The affected spell is considered to be a 4th level spell (with regards to spell level effects but not actual spell effects).
The caster level of the affected spell is increased by 1 (before considering the increase in duration).
Limitations
Only spells (incantations) can be affected by extension spells. Spell-like abilities, innate abilities, or magic items powers (invocations, even spells on scrolls) cannot be affected by this spell.
The caster of extension must be the caster of the affected spell.
If the affected spell does not have a verbal component, this spell adds a verbal component to the casting.
Metamagic spells only affect mage spells even if the caster is multi-classed.
A metamagic spell cannot be used to affect another metamagic spell or used on a spell combined with another metamagic spell.
Examples. A 7th level magic-user casts fly+extension. The casting time is 5 segments. The fly spell is considered a 4th level spell and lasts for 2 hours plus 10-60 rounds (as if cast by an 8th level caster). If a dispel magic attempt is made against the spell, it is against CL 8. The same caster casts a fireball+extension. The casting time is 5 segments. The fireball spell is considered a 4th level spell (useful for effects such as a minor globe of invulnerability) and does 8d6 fire damage (as if cast by an 8th level caster).
