This spell will transform an area of stone on the ground into liquid mud.
Area of Effect. The spell can affect up to one 20-ft. cube of stone per caster level. It will only affect stone that forms a horizontal surface (ie. "the ground") and will end where that stone supports any other terrain features including walls (or even pillars). The volume does not conform to the space and represents an area on the ground of one 20-ft. by 20-ft. square per caster level, affecting an amount of stone in each area to a maximum depth of 20-ft. If the surface area is less than 20-ft. square, the depth of the stone affected is limited to 1/2 the length or width (whichever is smaller). Thus, if cast in a 5-ft. wide hallway, the maximum depth of the mud is only 2.5-ft. deep. Only solid stone is affected, so if there is earth, clay, or some other material underneath (sand, gravel, etc.), the spell end where the solid stone ends. Additionally, the spell ends 5-ft. from any open space underneath it. Thus, it is not possible to use the spell to form sinkholes from one level of a cavern system to another. While the stone surface does not need to be perfectly contiguous, the spell only affects areas made mostly of whole stone (but this surface can be worked stone or even flush fitting stone blocks).
Effects of a Mud Surface
The mud is liquid mud, similar to quicksand in effect.
Objects or creatures sinking will sink at a rate of 1-ft. per segment beginning with the segment after the spell is cast.
If the depth is such that creatures can stand, use rules for partial submersion. Effects on speed depend on depth (per the GM, typically one-quarter speed if Man-sized and depth is under waist high).
If creatures become fully submerged, they cannot move and must hold their breath before beginning to suffocate.
If a creature can spread out their weight sufficiently (eg. they were standing on a carpet lying across the transmuted stone and fall prone when the spell was cast), they may not sink (per the GM) or their sinking may be slowed. Ropes can be used to pull those trapped out of the liquid mud.
Liquid mud will displace or drain similar to any other thick liquid. Casting the spell on a outcropping or dias would see the material displace as expected, possibly with effect with regards to those nearby.
Duration. The duration is permanent until dispelled. If dispelled, the mud becomes rock but will not change shape from its mud-based form.
Material Components. Magic-user. A bit of clay and water. Druid. Mistletoe. The component is consumed in the casting of the spell. Cost/Scarcity. Free/Common.
Known Additions/Substitutions. Standard effects for the use of mistletoe substitutions.

This spell will transform an area of wet mud on the ground into soft stone.
Area of Effect. The spell can affect up to one 20-ft. cube of wet mud per caster level. The volume does not conform to the space and represents an area on the ground of one 20-ft. by 20-ft. square per caster level, affecting an amount of mud in each area to a maximum depth of 20-ft. If the surface area is less than 20-ft. square, the depth of the mud affected is limited to 1/2 the length or width (whichever is smaller). Thus, if cast in a 5-ft. wide tunnel, the maximum depth of the stone is only 2.5-ft. deep. Only wet mud is affected, so if there is dried mud, stone, earth, clay, or some other material underneath (sand, gravel, etc.), the spell end where the wet mud ends. The mud affected becomes soft stone (similar to sandstone) in whatever shape the mud was in previously.
Creatures submerged or partially submerged in the mud will become encased in the soft stone. Those partially submerged may be restrained, entangled, or immobile based on how deep they were submerged (per the GM). Those fully enclosed may suffocate. The stone can be broken with a pick-type weapon or cracked with a blunt weapon. A man-sized creature partially submerged can break free by doing 1 shp of damage to the stone (or more if submerged above the knees; the GM will determine the amount/time).
If cast in an area under the effects of a transmute rock to mud spell, the spell will dispel the effect (no dispel check necessary).
Material Components. Magic-user. A bit of sand, lime, and water. Druid. Mistletoe. The component is consumed in the casting of the spell. Cost/Scarcity. Free/Common.
Known Additions/Substitutions. Standard effects for the use of mistletoe substitutions.
