The caster beseeches his or her deity one behalf of the penitent to address some sin committed against their own religion or alignment.
In cases where a recipient has transgressed against their alignment or deity—against their will or knowledge, and some ill effect has occured, this spell can be useful in making amends (per the GM). Examples include magically forced alignment change or effects of behavior induced by a curse (that transgresses class strictures, etc.).
Sacrifice. In all cases, some sacrifice will be required before the atonement is granted. This is under the purvue of the deity (the GM), but will be tied to the nature of the transgression (and sincerity of the recipient). This could be anything from a tithe to a quest.
Effect. The spell will return the recipient to good standing regarding their class and/or original alignment. Experience points lost are not returned.
Limitations
Typically, only those worshiping the same deity as the caster can be affected, although in rare cases, those friendly and in good standing with the religion may be assisted.
The recipient must be truly repentant of the actions or not in command of their faculties. Actions taken not induced by magic or guile cannot be atoned.
Material Components. The caster's holy/unholy symbol, prayer beads (or similar item), and expensive incense. Only the incense is consumed in the casting of the spell. Cost/Scarcity. incense: 100 g.p./uncommon.
Known Additions/Substitutions. None known although certain religious relics are rumored to enhance the possibilities past simple answers.
