The spell will cause a number of pieces of wood in the area to become snakes.

• The spell will polymorph any stick-like piece of wood (up to one per caster level within the area of effect), torches, spears, even arrows into snakes.

• Each snake may be either a poisonous snake (5% chance per caster level) or (if rolling higher than this on the d%) it will be a constrictor snake.

• Polymorphed snakes can be magically controlled by the spell caster, and can be commanded attack an enemy in sight or follow other simple commands. The initial command is part of the casting of the spell; New commands are dispensed as an innate ability (minor).

Limitations.

• Only mundane sticks may be affected.

• If poisonous, the type of poison must be determined randomly. See Vile Monsters, Snake.

• Commands must be very simple and direct (attack the creature pointed at; stay here and attack all who come near; follow me; etc.).

Material Components (Cleric). A small bit of bark and a few snake scales. The components are consumed in the casting of the spell. Cost/Scarcity. 1 g.p./Common.

Known Additions/Substitutions. If using a whole molted skin from a giant amphisbaena, the snakes created will be of the giant variety.

Material Components (Druid). Mistletoe.

Mid-summer Mistletoe. Range is 50 feet and duration is 3 rounds per caster level. Borrowed: Range is 30 feet and chances of poison snakes is 2% per level. Holly: Range is 20 feet and duration 1 round per caster level. Chances of poison snakes is 2% per level. Oak leaves: Range is 20 feet and duration 1 round per caster level. Poison snakes cannot be created.
