This spell will create an extra-dimensional space accessible by up to 6 man-sized creatures.
The caster must have a rope on hand to cast the spell. The caster actually casts the spell on the rope.
Once the spell is cast, the rope magically un-spools, rising into the air to it's maximum height while still touching the ground or 30-ft. whichever is lower.
At the top of the rope, a 3-ft. wide by 5-ft. long window into an extra-dimensional space opens.
Climbing the Rope. See Climbing. The rope can support up to 400-lbs.—if more weight is placed on the rope, the spell will fail. Once a creature is in the extra-dimensional space, the rope can be pulled into the space through the window (although it is still "attached" to the space and can be lowered again while the duration persists).
Number of Creatures in the Space. Up to 6 man-sized (roughly 6-ft. tall) creatures can fill the area with enough space for each to sit and rest. The GM will determine the effect of odd-shaped, smaller or larger creatures and capacity. The space is slightly amorphous and not easily measured.
Environment. The spell's magic provides clean air in the space and the temperature is a constant 70 degrees F. A diffuse light fills the space, enough to read by, but does not affect the ability to sleep. Infravision does not work in the space. Custom versions of the spell have been rumored to provide water-based or other environments.
Window. The "window" is actually a portal to the extra-dimensional place where the space exists. It will block sound, light, external temperature effects (including infravision), liquids, and gasses. It also blocks line of sight and line of effect. Only one side of the window ("down") can be accessed (and only if there is room under the window). If the rope is pulled into the space, the window is invisible. The window can be detected using detect magic, true-seeing, or a magical-based ability to see (but not sense) invisible. Those outside the space viewing the window with infravision cannot see the window if the rope is pulled up. Creatures in the space can see out normally using the window. Physical objects can be propelled or thrown into the window (or out of the window), although effects like landslides or cave-ins won't normally push into the space (but could block egress). Typical rules for cover versus missile fire should be used—although those inside the extra-dimensional space cannot be seen nor heard. If the window is in the area of a dispel magic-type effect, the rope trick spell can be dispelled as typical for any other spell. In this case, all inside the rope trick will fall to the ground (and suffer up to 6d6 falling damage).
Items or Effects Providing Access to Other Extra-dimensional Spaces. These do not operate while in the extra-dimensional space. It is as if the item's powers are suppressed. For example, a bag of holding will operate as a regular sack while in the rope trick space—anything kept in it cannot be accessed until the bag leaves the rope trick space. Extra-dimensional spells fail if cast while in the rope trick space.
Divination, Telepathy, or Other Effects. Creatures or items in the rope trick space are considered to be on another plane with regards to divination, telepathy, or other effects that don't require line of effect.
Inability to Exit. If creatures in the extra-dimensional space cannot leave due to the window being blocked (by a solid object or objects), they will find themselves deposited in a random location in the Astral plane.
Material Components. A pinch of powdered corn extract and a twisted loop of parchment. The component is consumed in the casting of the spell. Cost/Scarcity. 1 g.p./Common;
Known Additions/Substitutions. None.
