Save Dexterity vs. Spell (save for half)
The caster places a fiery trap on a door, container, or certain objects such as a book.
The spell can ward anything that can be opened and closed (if a portal, the area of effect is the door/gate and the opening).
If the object or area warded is accessed by any creature other than the caster, the trap will detonate, and all in a 5-ft. radius must make a Dexterity save vs. Spell or take 1d4 fire damage +1 fire damage per caster level (save for half). The object trapped is not harmed by the explosion (although objects nearby or in the trapped container must make item saves).
A fire trap can be found and removed using the thief skills, find/remove traps. However, the one using the skill has a penalty that cuts the chance for success in half. Failure to remove a fire trap detonates it.
While a knock spell will open a container or portal, any creature that accesses the container or passes through the portal will detonate the fire trap (the knock spell will not trigger the ward even if opening a portal or container).
A fire trap cannot be cast on the same area or object as a hold portal spell (and vice versa). A Wizard's Lock spell cast on a portal or object that is warded by a fire trap has a 50% chance of success (d%; 51-00). If the spell fails, the fire trap is dispelled without detonation. A fire trap cannot be cast on a portal or container warded by a Wizard's Lock spell.
