The caster targets one object or creature with a special arrow that gushes acid after it strikes.
The caster casts the spell and sends an arrow (in hand as a material component) flying toward the selected target in range.
The arrow gains a +2 bonus on the attack roll, the caster adds their Dexterity adjustment to the attack, and the caster uses the fighter attack matrix for the attack.
The attack does not use adjustments for armor defense.
The arrow is treated as a +2 weapon when considering damage resistance.
If the arrow misses, the spell has no effect.
If the arrow strikes the target, the target take 1d6+2 damage plus 2d6 acid damage (no save). If the target is immune to the arrow's damage, the acid damage still applies. If the target was corporeal, the arrow sticks and will continue to release acid after the first strike.
For every three magic-user levels above the 5th level (8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 20th), the arrow’s acid continues to be effective for an additional round past the first, doing 2d6 acid damage each additional round unless the acid is neutralized or dispelled.
While the arrow continues to release acid, concentration cannot occur.
The acid may be neutralized (non-magically) via lime (1-lb.; in powder form, used in building), ammonia (8 ounces; used in alchemy or tanning leathers), or flushed away with two or more gallons of liquid.
Each full round of exposure after the first causes any items subjected to save vs. Acid or be destroyed. Typically, this is limited to the armor or shield worn, a robe or cloak, a belt, and possibly a pouch (as determined by the GM; The acid volume is about 8 ounces or a 1 ft. spill so a limited number of items will be affected, generally one or two).
Materials Components. An arrow, powdered rhubarb leaf, and adder stomach. The components are consumed in the casting of the spell. Cost/Scarcity. (adder stomach) 5 g.p./Uncommon.
Known Substitutions. If a +3 magic arrow or better is used, the magic transfers into the spell as do any special properties (cf. arrow of slaying).
