This spell will protect a structure around the caster.
When cast, the following effects will occur in the area of effect:
All corridors are covered in mist granting total concealment past 10 feet.
All doors are subject to a (non-permanent) Wizard's Lock spell as if cast by the caster of guards and wards.
One door per caster level, as selected by the caster, will be covered by a spectral force illusion of a blank wall. Only doors familiar to the caster can be selected (ie. they have been opened/used).
All stairways are completely covered in webs as per the web spell.
At any branch, creatures are subject to a confusion-type effect and 50% of the time (d%: 01-50) will select a different direction than that desired (no save). The effect is such that those following the wrong path believe they are following their desired course until it is proven (irrefutably) to be wrong.
The caster can add ONE of the following additional effects that mimic the noted spell but persist for the duration of the guards and wards spell: dancing lights (in 4 corridors), gust of wind (in one area), magic mouth (in 2 spots; spell keyed to a target as desired by the caster), stinking cloud (in two areas; area of effect per the spell), or a magic mouth that delivers a suggestion spell (if more than one creature is in the area, they will be of the type that triggers the mouth and otherwise randomly selected). The caster must be familiar with the area the effect is to be added (ie. must have been in it).
Dispel. A dispel magic effect can only dispel the components of the guards and wards spell in the dispel's area of effect (each component making a separate check).
Material Components. Some burning incense, a small measure of sulfur and oil, a knotted string, a small amount of xorn or tunnel brute blood, and a small silver rod. The components are consumed in the casting of the spell. Cost/Scarcity. Silver rod: 20 gp/rare (silversmith); Umber hulk blood: 750 gp/very rare (alchemist or collected directly).
