This spell will dispel most magical effects or active spells in the area of effect or suppress a single magical item's capabilities for a short time.
Dispel Magical Effects in an Area. All active magical effects in the area of effect may be dispelled/nullified. This includes spells, spell-like abilities, or innate abilities that duplicate* magical spells.
Chance to Be Dispelled. Each magical effect must be checked separately. The chance is 50% (51-00) to be dispelled. This is adjusted by caster level: For every caster level of the dispel magic over the caster level of the effect, there is a +5% to the chance to dispel. For every caster level of the effect over the caster level of the dispel magic, there is a -2% to the chance to dispel.
Caster's Own Spells. These will be automatically dispelled if in the area of effect.
Potions. Any (unconsumed) potions in the area of effect will have a chance to be dispelled as a spell effect. If dispelled, the potion is destroyed (becoming non-magical liquid). All unconsumed potions are treated as if they were a caster level 12 with regard to being destroyed by a dispel magic effect. A consumed potion (active effect) will be dispelled based on the magic's caster level as listed in the magic item description.
Special Abjurations. Anti-magic effects (e.g. anti-magic shell) and wall of force effects are immune to dispelling. These effects stop the burst area of effect. Any version of globe of invulnerability will also stop the area of effect if the globe is not dispelled.
Lead or Extra-dimensional Spaces. Any items fully encased in lead or leaded-metal or items within an extra-dimensional space will not be affected by the spell.
Magic Resistance. A creature with magic resistance in the area of effect that makes its magic resistance check against the dispel magic will render any spell/ability with a range of personal, "0", or touch (with the creature as the recipient) immune to the dispel magic as well as effects on any items as well as protecting any potions carried.
* "Duplicate" generally means the effect is named as the spell and points to the spell for effects. Many innate abilities are supernatural abilities and will not be affected by dispel magic. (e.g. lycanthrope's shape change, a ghost's magic jar ability, a vampire's gaseous form ability, etc.).
Targeting One Magical Object/Item. The dispel magic can instead target a single magic item or object. This can be in possession of another creature, although line of sight is required. If unattended, the object will lose all magic capability for 1 round (no save). If in possession of a creature, the item must make a save vs. Spell as the creature possessing it or lose all magical capability for 1 round (save negates).
If the dispel magic spell is used in this way against an object under the effect of a spell, the spell will not be dispelled, but will be suppressed for 1 round as described above.
