This spell makes the recipient immune to damage from small fire sources and resistant to sources of very hot fire damage.
The recipient is immune to fire damage from: burning oil or burning grease, torches, camp fires, hot tar or pitch, etc. This also includes spells that do less than 10 hp of fire damage before a saving throw (if any) per strike/round. Examples are burning hands, produce flame, heat metal, certain monster attacks, etc.
The recipient gains a +3 bonus to saving throws against very hot or magical fires and such damage does only half damage (save for 25% damage, if applicable). Examples are: contact with lava, dragon fire, spells or fire attacks doing more than 10 hp of fire damage per strike (fireball, fire storm, flamestrike, meteor swarm, etc.).
A recipient's gear is also immune to fire damage. Thus, the recipient may be covered in flaming oil with no effect to their carried or worn possessions. Even a recipient that fails a saving throw versus fire damage or is subject to a fire effect with no save will not need to make saving throws for their items against fire damage.
Material Components. A drop of mercury. There are approximately 200 drops to an ounce (there is a high amount of waste). The component is consumed in the casting of the spell. Cost/Scarcity. 75 g.p. per ounce/Rare;
Known Additions/Substitutions. Red dragon blood or (freely given) fire elemental ash increase the save to +5 and reduce the damage by 1 per die (minimum 0).
