The spell creates a black doorway that teleports those that enter it.
During the casting of the spell, the caster must indicate exactly where the dimension door spell will lead. The maximum distance from the location of the caster is 30-ft. per caster level. If the caster cannot see the area they will dimension door to, they must tell the Game Master in specific terms: Number of feet, direction (angle in degrees from north or 0 degrees), and elevation in feet from the caster's location.
Once the spell is cast, a black doorway, approximately the size of the caster appears.
The doorway appears 2-ft. from the caster's location in a vertical plane.
The caster can use an immediate action to enter the doorway which will teleport them to another location. The doorway then disappears.
Anything carried by the caster will also be teleported subject to a weight limit.
Any willing creatures touched by the caster during the casting of the spell may enter the doorway as an immediate action, subject to a weight limit.
An unwilling creature can be taken through the doorway, although if not helpless, the creature must be grappled and pinned (previous to the casting of the spell). Thus, non-helpless unwilling creatures must be pinned and carried by a willing ally of the caster and both the grappler and the unwilling pinned creature must fall within the weight limit of the spell. There is otherwise no saving throw for an unwilling creature.
Limitations
The weight limit for objects is 500-lbs. This includes everything worn or carried by the caster and any other living creature.
The weight limit for additional creatures (over that of the spell caster) is 250-lbs.
The doorway cannot be used by any creature not touched by the caster during the casting of the spell.
If the Astral plane cannot be accessed by the caster, the spell fails. This means the spell cannot be cast while in an extra-dimension space (unless ruled otherwise by the GM) or if the caster is already on the Astral plane.
Teleportation Effects
The doorway uses the Astral plane as a conduit to move matter instantaneously between the two points.
If the end point is occupied by solid matter, the caster and any other creature are left in the Astral plane (in a random location on the plane), stunned for 10 rounds. Typical methods for plane travel are then required to return to the Prime.
Once the caster and any other creature exits the dooway, no actions can be taken until the next round.
The exit doorway can be positioned in the air or in liquid, although once the caster or other creatures exit, gravity (and any other environmental considerations) takes immediate effect.
