This spell creates an illusionary mouth that delivers a short speech upon a trigger.
The caster casts the spell and touches an object or surface where the mouth will appear. See Limitations below.
The caster dictates the message that the mouth will utter when triggered. The message must be 25 words or less and the caster must speak them all within a 10 round span. The words are illusory and cannot trigger magic items or produce spells.
The caster sets the trigger. See Triggers below.
The maximum range of the trigger from the object or point touched is 5-ft. per caster level. The range is determined by the caster when the spell is cast.
When triggered, an illusionary mouth (the type formed by the caster's imagination) will appear and will speak the words as if spoken by the caster.
Limitations
This spell cannot be cast on a living creature of any type.
No matter the size of the object or surface, the spell originates from the spot the caster touched and this is where the range for the trigger begins.
Triggers
The trigger is limited to operate on visible, tactile, or auditory stimuli out to the range specified. The spell can "see" using light or infravision. The spell can "hear" as if it were the caster.
The spell cannot make judgement calls or infer information.
Thus, the spell cannot detect invisible creatures, track time, guess someone's age, see into a sack carried, know someone's name, etc. The spell cannot detect a creature's creature type ("orc", etc.).
The spell can trigger when presented with command words, the presence of a moving creature, being touched, etc.
The spell can trigger on a description of a creature: Size/height, general shape ("humanoid-shaped", "four-legged"), facial hair, hair and/or eye color, a creature wearing a particular item, etc. Details like gender or age can only be detected if attributes are described by the caster and these are evident in a subject within range of the magic mouth.
The spell can trigger based upon a creature's visible activity: Sitting, kneeling, a gesture, etc.
The trigger can include multiple components as desired by the spell caster.
The GM may allow the caster to use "shorthand" when describing the trigger, when in actuality, the caster is being more descriptive; e.g. The spell triggers when a "dragon" comes within 30-ft.
Material Components. A small piece of honeycomb. The component is consumed in the casting of the spell. Cost/Scarcity. 1 s.p./Common.
Known Substitutions. None.
