The druid causes long thorns to magically grow on a willing living recipient and their items.
The recipient of the spell gains a +2 bonus to armor class per four caster levels and has no Armor Defense adjustment versus weapons even if wearing armor.
Any creature using an appendage (ie. not a manufactured or improvised weapon) to attack/touch the recipient covered with thorns will take 1d6 points of damage per touch or attack. The thorns are painful so creatures that use an appendage to grab, grapple, constrict, or hug (that are not immune to pain) will not use that mode of attack against the recipient of this spell. Creatures immune to pain that continue this attack mode will take 1d6 points of damage per round the recipient is grabbed, grappled, constricted, or hugged. Thus, a creature biting the recipient will take this damage as will an ally casting cure wounds by touch.
If the recipient uses it’s natural weapons (hands, bite, claws, etc.) or wooden weapons (made entirely of wood) to attack, its attacks will do an extra 1d6 points of damage per attack. If grappling, constricting, hugging, or using a similar full body attack, the damage by the recipient is increased to 1d6 (usually incurred per round the opponent is held).
The spell does no damage, offensively or defensively against creatures requiring magic weapons to hit (unless a wooden weapon being used by the recipient is magical). The spell does no damage to items, whether worn /wielded by the recipient or wielded/worn by their attacker.
The spell will not function if cast on a recipient wearing metal armor of any kind or wielding a metal shield. If a metal shield is later picked up and wielded, the spell will be negated.
