The recipient gains armor benefits as if wearing leather armor when no other armor is worn.
When no other armor is worn, the recipient gains an AC 8 (AD 8). The AC is adjusted normally from this base due to shield use, Dexterity, or protective magic.
If a creature has a natural base AC of 8 or better, it will instead gain a +1 bonus to AC (and no change to AD).
The spell has no visible effect and will not hinder the recipient in any way (using abilities, spell casting, etc.).
The recipient is not considered to be wearing armor.
Duration. The spell is permanent until discharged. The spell will be discharged if the recipient takes 8 + 1 point per caster level of damage (of any type).
Limitations
If the recipient dons any type of body armor, the spell become dormant and does not function. While dormant, damage is not assessed with regards to discharging the spell.
Material Components. A piece of finely cured leather blessed by a cleric which is consumed during the casting. Cost/Scarcity. 2 g.p. for the leather. If cast by a NPC, a bless spell will typically cost 5 g.p. per caster level if the magic-user is a familiar member of the congregation.
Known Substitutions. Variant hides from special and/or rare creatures may be used. These might add a +1 bonus or add some other type of resistance (but only if the base AC of 8 is being used). A large piece of hide of exceptional quality treated with religious rites as well as spells from a high priest may increase the bonus to creatures with a base AC better than 10.
