This spell will cause a small volume of wooden objects to bend and warp.
The caster casts the spell and selects the wooden objects to be warped in the area of effect.
The caster can affect approximately 12 cubic inches of wood per caster level. If the spell is cast at an object with too much volume, the spell fails.
Warping typically renders an item unusable. In some cases, it may allow an object to be more easily broken.
Examples:
Item Volume (cubic inches) Caster Level Required
Arrow 5 2nd
Axe, battle 36 3rd
Axe, hand 9 2nd
Bow, long 56 5th
Bow, short 36 3rd
Club 112 9th
Door, plank 240 Spell Fails
Lance 160 13th
Pole arm 105 9th
Quarrel (bolt) 4 2nd
Quarterstaff 148 12th
Shield, small 250 Spell Fails
Spear 54 5th
Thus, at 5th level, the caster could warp the shaft of a typical spear, a longbow, or up to a dozen arrows.
Magical Wood
If casting the spell on a magic item, the caster level of the item is compared to the caster level of the one casting warp wood. If the caster level of the item is equal to or higher than the caster level of the warp wood spell, the spell fails. Otherwise, there is a 20% chance the warp wood will work per level of difference. Note. Most magic items are caster level 12 unless described otherwise (and if caster level is different by function, use the highest caster level).
If casting the spell on dweomered wood (e.g. a coffer with a wizard's lock spell), the caster level of the dweomer is compared to the caster level of the one casting warp wood. If the caster level of the dweomer is equal to or higher than the caster level of the warp wood spell, the spell fails. Otherwise, there is a 20% chance the warp wood will work per level of difference.
