This spell allows the spell caster to read magical writing.
Unless otherwise indicated in the description, magical writing—on books, scrolls, objects, etc. can be read using a read magic spell. While the spell allows translation of the text even if in an unknown language, depending on the material, the meaning may not be apparent. Note that only magical text will be translated.
The spell requires light passing through the prism to work and a blank surface (such as a sheet of parchment).
The writing itself must be accessed by the caster, unfurling a scroll or opening a book and flipping through each page.
Up to 1 page of dense text per round (or around 500 words per round) can be skimmed with good comprehension of the material (this does not affect a mage's comprehension check).
Reading a text, even if just skimming it, will expose the caster to any harmful effects (curses, text-based traps, baneful tomes, etc.).
Once a particular text has been read using the spell, the caster can read that particular text without casting the spell again.
Material Components. A prism made of clear crystal or a clear mineral. The component is not consumed when the spell is cast. Cost/Scarcity. 5 g.p./Rare (glass blower, jeweler).
Known Substitutions. None.

This spell makes the affected magical writing incomprehensible to those able to read magical writing.
This spell will protect magical writing from those using divination spells to read it. Even if a spell is used to read it, the text will be incomprehensible. The spell can be dispelled with the normal chance of success through the use of a dispel magic effect.
The writing itself must be accessed by the caster, unfurling a scroll or opening a book and flipping through each page.
The caster must have the ability to read the text targeted by an unreadable magic spell.
Any effect due to reading the text will be suppressed until the text can be read. Certain written magics (wards) do not need to be read to operate (and will not be affected other than they cannot be read).
Material Components. A pinch of dirt and a drop of water. The components are consumed when the spell is cast. Cost/Scarcity. Free/Common.
Known Substitutions. None.
