Save save vs. Spell (save negates; see description)
Anything disintegrated by this spell simply ceases to exist.
The spell can target one creature, one magical effect with a physical manifestation, or a single object of up to a 1,000 sq. ft. of volume.
Saving Throw. Mundane objects or matter receive no saving throw and are destroyed. Magical objects must save vs Disintegrate or be destroyed (save negates). Creatures must save vs Spell or be destroyed (save negates). Magical effects do not receive a saving throw.
Objects. While the spell can only affect a "single object", the term here is somewhat loose. For example, the spell can affect a suit of armor, a winch mechanism with chain, a locked door, etc. In addition, the spell can affect a wall, doing 2 shp worth of damage to constructions (so a castle wall may be relatively unaffected, while a ship's hull is damaged, the ship taking on water). Attended items (those carried or worn by a creature) cannot be targeted—the creature must be the target and, if it misses its save, the creature is gone along with all mundane items. All magical items worn or carried must make a save vs Disintegrate or be totally destroyed/gone.
Magical Effects. Examples are a wall of force, a Wizard's Hand spell, etc. If the effect cannot be seen, the spell can be cast with a range of touch. In some cases, the effect may not be destroyed if specifically described in the description (eg. cube of force).
Limitations
Incorporeal creatures cannot be disintegrated.
Disintegrate cannot affect areas of anti-magic (including spells generating that effect that also affect 6th level spells; examples anti-magic shell, globe of invulnerability, and prismatic sphere).
Damage to constructions or terrain is limited to structural damage. ie. This spell does not cause a 10-ft. cube to vanish.
Material Components. A lodestone and a bit of dust. The components are consumed in the casting. Cost/Scarcity. Lodestone: 5 g.p./Uncommon.
Known Substitutions. None.
