This spell causes a fire source to emit a translucent swirling veil of multi-colored flame. Creatures seeing it may become fascinated.
This spell must target one fire source of at least torch-sized or larger with open flame. E.g. A torch, a camp fire, an open fireplace, a burning pool of oil, etc. The caster must toss the material component into the fire (which must be unattended or held by an ally willing to take damage as per the description below). An attack roll is not necessary unless ruled otherwise due to circumstances (per the GM).
The spell causes the fire source to emit a translucent swirling veil of multi-colored flame in a 5-ft. radius which lasts for 2 rounds per caster level.
Any creature that comes within 5-ft. of the fire source takes fire damage as if passing through the original fire source (eg. 1d4 fire if a torch and 1d6 fire if burning oil) per round. Any creature within 5-ft. of the fire source when the spell is cast takes fire damage but is unaffected by the other effects of the spell.
All creatures within 10-ft. of the swirling flame effect that can observe/see the effect must make a Wisdom save vs. Spell or become fascinated for the duration of the spell (save negates). Any creature entering the area of effect (10-ft. radius of the swirling flames) must save or become fascinated even if they had previously made their saving throw.
If a fascinated creature takes damage or is subjected to a physical attack, the fascinated condition for that creature ends. If a fascinated creature loses sight of the flames (interposing body or a cloth draped over the eyes), the fascination effect ends. If the flame is doused (the spell does nothing to extend the life of the flame or protect it), the spell ends.
Each round, the caster can make a suggestion (as per the spell) of up to 12 words (no more!) targeting one or more of the fascinated creatures. Each target must make a -3 Wisdom save vs. Spell or follow the suggestion for up to 1 hour. A creature that makes it's save is no longer fascinated.
Limitations
While the caster is immune to the mind-affecting effects of the spell, the caster's allies are not.
Material Components. A small strip of fine multi-colored silk which must be dropped or thrown in the targeted fire source. Cost/Scarcity. 10 g.p./Rare.
