This spell suppresses the effects of low level magic.
This spell suppresses all magic of spell level 3 or lower (regardless of caster type). Once the globe is cast, if the target (or point of origin) of such magic is within the area of effect, the spell or ability fails.
This includes spells, spell-like abilities, innate abilities, and invocations (from magic items). If an effect does not have a listed spell level and does not conform largely to an existing spell, it is unaffected. For example, many potions will work normally. (Eg. potion of healing.)
If a caster type is not listed, use (from first to last): magic-user, cleric, druid, then illusionist. Phantasms and spectral illusions may use the illusionist list first per the GM.
The globe moves with the caster.
The caster of the minor globe can still cast a spell (or use abilities or items) of any spell level so long as the target is outside of the area of effect—including spells or abilities of spell level 3 or lower.
Any existing effects on the caster (or others within the globe) cease functioning and any attempt to target anything within the area of effect fails—for magic of spell level 3 or lower. Thus, a fireball that bursts from a point outside the globe will function normally all around the globe, but if the point of origin is within the globe, the spell fails. A fog cloud can encompass the globe and, while no fog would be found within the globe, the fog outside of the globe will still block sight. If the caster was protected by an armor spell, a shield spell, and a mirror image spell, all of these effects will be suppressed for the duration of the globe spell.
If a spell or ability is cast within the globe and it has a range of touch, it will fail—for magic of spell level 3 or lower.
Spells from other casters can be cast through the area of effect at targets beyond. Any area of effect is suppressed within the globe. For example, a lightning bolt (a 3rd level spell) can be cast through the globe affecting those in front or behind (but the effect is suppressed within the globe itself).
Dispel Magic. A dispel magic effect can dispel the globe. If successful in dispelling the globe, the dispel will affect any magic previously protected by the globe. Otherwise, if the globe survives the dispel attempt, nothing within the globe will be affected.
Supernatural abilities are not affected by this spell.
Psionic effects are not affected by anti-magic.
Generally, if a magic resistance check would not be given, the globe cannot suppress the effect.
Material Components. A bead made from crystal or glass which is consumed in the casting. Cost/Scarcity. 5 s.p./Uncommon.
Known Substitutions. None.
