A hold portal spell seals one container or portal.
The caster casts the spell and touches the portal or container. A portal can include a double door. A portal can be a gate or portcullis. A container must be made of a rigid material, like wood or metal. The container or portal can also possess a mundane lock but cannot be subject to another [warding] spell.
The container or portal is then magically sealed and cannot be opened. See Bypassing the Lock below. The seal on a portal functions in both directions.
The portal or enclosure will be seen to have a complex padlock-style lock on either side. If a mundane lock is already installed, the magical lock will appear near it.
The magical lock appears solid and real (as if mundane). However, no amount of prying or pushing will break or snap the lock (although checks will be made by the GM).
The magical lock can be the target of a Wizard's Trap spell.
If the container or portal is destroyed, the lock becomes ineffective.
The lock can be bypassed by the following methods:
The caster can bypass their own lock as if it were not there.
A successful open locks check will open the lock (and the locks on both sides will magically open).
A mage that has comprehended the spell and is 4 caster levels higher than the caster of the spell can bypass the lock as if it were not there.
A knock spell will negate (automatically dispel) a hold portal spell.
A dispel magic effect has the standard chance to dispel the spell.
Magic resistance can be used to shatter the spell using the active resistance feature.
Limitations
The spell does not protect the door or container from other magical effects (e.g. warp wood, disintegrate, etc.).
