The ground becomes covered in long invisible spikes.
Any creature that moves through the area must make a Dexterity save vs Spell or take 1d4 piercing damage per 5 foot of movement (save for half).
Unless charging, creatures can stop movement once the first die of damage is taken. Creatures can leave a spiked 5-ft square without taking damage. Charging creatures will not notice the damage until they end their charge.
Any creature that fails the save by 5 or more will be maimed and their speed is halved. This maiming can be cured by any amount of magical healing or by bandaging the limb and resting for at least 1 hour. Climbing creatures maimed by the spell must make a Dexterity save vs Petrify or fall (save avoids).
Falling on to a surface covered in spikes will add 1d4 damage to each d6 of falling damage taken (no save).
Limitations
Creatures with damage resistance against mundane weapons are immune to the spike damage.
Flying creatures are immune to spike damage.

Known Substitutions. Standard effects for the use of mistletoe substitutions. Mid-summer mistletoe grants a bonus to damage of +1 per die.
