The recipient gains damage resistance versus non-magical missile attacks.
The recipient takes no damage from missile attacks from non-magical manufactured weapons (including improvised weapons) or natural weapons (tail spikes, etc. even if the creature has high hit dice to overcome other types of damage resistance). Weapons are deflected without any physical contact.
Other effects on the recipient that rely on physical contact (e.g. stoneskin) do not treat such missile attacks as an attack (successful or not).
A recipient in melee is not considered a valid target of non-magical missile weapons (as defined above). Thus, allies cannot accidentally target them with a (non-magical) missile weapon.
If the recipient is struck with a missile attack from a missile not manufactured or natural—siege missiles, giant-thrown boulders, etc. OR a magical missile weapon (magical ammunition, ammunition launched from a magical missile weapon, a thrown magical weapon, etc.), the recipient will take half damage.
Limitations
Energy effect spell damage including the spell, magic missile, is unaffected.
