Illusion/Phantasm [hallucination]
Level Druid 4
Components V, S, M
Casting Time 6 segments
Range 80-ft.
Area of Effect 40-ft. by 40-ft. area per caster level
Duration Permanent or 1 hour per caster level (D)
Save (Modified) Wisdom Disbelief vs. Spell (save disbelieves)
The spell caster can create an illusion of a forest—specifically, the plant life found in a forest (trees, shrubs, thickets, etc.).
The spell includes sight, sound, smell, and heat (plant life appears normal when viewed with infravision).
The overall area must be one square or rectangle in shape no smaller than one 40-ft. by 40-ft square. Open channels (trails*) can be created as desired.
Creatures encountering a hallucination (the forest) can only gain a disbelief save through forcible interaction (casual contact will not allow a saving throw). Flying creatures attempting to alight on illusory plants will automatically disbelieve the spell.
When cast, the spell caster can choose the duration. Each spell caster can maintain only one permanent casting of this spell per caster level.
When cast, one edge of the spell must be within 80 feet of the caster.
* While a "trail" can be made, the ground/earth itself cannot be altered in appearance, only covered in plant life (thus, a trail may appear to be unused, if there were none previous to casting, possibly giving those with woodcraft skills a clue that something is amiss). See Limitations below.
Limitations.
Plant life can be any naturally occurring plant life. i.e. Giant plants (mushroom "forests") are not naturally occurring. That said, carpets of normal sized fungi or vines are naturally occurring. Thus, plant life can be carpets of moss, huge trees, impassable thorny thickets, etc.
Plants make noise and move based on wind/weather conditions when the spell was originally cast. Changes in weather (wind, rain, etc.) will have no effect on the illusory plants.
The illusory plant life must be anchored to the ground. The spell only creates illusory plant life, not the appearance of earth/ground (although moss can be used to cover terrain features like quicksand or tangled roots). Thus, caves, holes/pits, or ravines cannot be made to look as if they are not there, although these can be hidden from sight by plant life until a creature comes near.
Hallucinations cannot cause damage. Thus, even a creature that misses it's disbelief save can push through any sort of illusory plant life (at one-quarter speed) without taking damage. As this would not be normal behavior, the GM will rule whether creatures attempt this after interaction attempts fail (e.g. intelligent humanoids see a forest spring up from nowhere during pursuit).
Druids and creatures with the creature type or sub-type of fey or plant automatically disbelieve the hallucination.
