The caster can use this spell to create moats or embankments or to flatten or fill them.
Casting Time. For every 40-ft. by 40-ft. area of soil (dirt, clay, loam, sand, etc.) to be affected, the spell takes 10 rounds to cast, cumulative. Once the spell casting is complete, it will take a like amount of time to shift the soil. If using an earth elemental to assist, the elemental must be conjured prior to the move earth spell being cast. The elemental must be under the control of the caster.
With this spell, the caster can create or flatten embankments or dig or fill moats or channels.
Based on the make up of the soil, tunnels will collapse but certain features may be exposed by shifting soil.
The caster can use the spell for finer work, such as moving areas covered with vegetation (trees, grasses) within the area of effect, but in order to do this, an earth elemental must be conjured to assist (using the appropriate spell or magic item). Structures may likewise be moved but only if they are sitting on soil with no foundation stone or open areas underneath.
While small stones will shift with the soil, the spell has no effect in areas made up of mostly hard stone.
The spell's magic will only move the soil. It does nothing to keep it formed. Thus, gravity and physics are the primary limiters in terms of what can be created. ie. Soil tends toward slopes and not hard edges or steep grades.
Soil can be displaced but it does not disappear and so it must go somewhere if digging is done.
Material Components. A mixture of soils (clay, loam, sand) in a small bag, and an iron blade or shovel. The components are consumed when the spell is cast. Cost/Scarcity. 10 sp/Common.
Known Substitutions. None.
