Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. It's one of the oldest cities of Europe. Kyiv is situated on the picturesque banks of the Dnipro river. It is one of the most beautiful cities of Europe. The population of Kyiv is about 3 million people. The main street in Kyiv is Khreschatyk Street. The main square in the capital is Independence square.
There are many places of historic interest in it. Among them there are the Kyivo-Pecherska Lavra, the Golden Gate, St. Sophia’s Cathedral, the Golden Gate, Mariyinskiy Palace, the House with Chimeras and others. Kyivo-Pecherska Lavra is an ancient monastery, founded in 1051. The Golden Gate was the main entrance to Kyiv. Mariyinskiy Palace is the official residence of the President of Ukraine. The House with Chimeras is one of the most beautiful buildings in Kyiv built in 1902-1903 by polish architect Vladislav Gorodetsky. Mermaids, frogs, dolphins, eagles, elephants, mystical and real creatures decorate the facade of the building.
Kyiv is a large political, industrial and cultural centre. There are many theatres, museums, exhibitions in Kyiv.
Kyiv is especially beautiful in spring when the famous Kyiv chestnut trees are in blossom. They are the symbol of Kyiv.
Kyiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe.
