The Nationalliga B was formed in 1944. Before that was 1. liga 2nd level. As the facts and tables from that era (1932-43) is too sketchy I have elected to begin with the formation of the Nationalliga B. In 2003 the Swiss 2nd level changed name to the Challenge League. The facts on which this table is based are from www.rsssf.com. Thanks to them. You are free to copy this document in non-commercial circumstances but be sure to state the source, i.e. Clas Glenning. Note that from several seasons during the late 1980:s and later Nationalliga A and B were played in two separate halves. Four teams from A was relegated to B after the fall season. That is why some teams below do not have whole seasons in their seasontotal.

Notes 1952/53: Etoile La Chaux-de-Fonds withdrew and had all games stricken. 2002/03: FC Lugano and FC Winterthur had five and eight points, respectively, deducted for irregularities in their license applications. 2002/03: FC Lugano withdrew during the springseason and all their games stricken. 2005/06: SC YF Juventus had three points deducted for license violations. 2015/16: FC Biel-Bienne withdrew after the first round of matches. They were counted though. 2016/17: FC Wil 1900 had three points deducted. 2017/18: FC Chiasso had three points deducted.  FC Lugano were under a period - following their reconstruction - known as AC Lugano. Several games for promotion and relegation have been played when teams were level on points after the  regular season. All those games have been counted here.
