A unified league was first formed in South Africa for the 1996/97-season. The table is based on tables found at RSSSF and Wikiwand. You are free to copy this document in a non-commercial capacity, but please state the source, i.e. Clas Glenning. The table was completely overhauled and corrected in September 2020.

Ajax Cape Town = merger of Cape Town Spurs and Seven Stars. Free State Stars prev. QwaQwa Stars. AmaZulu prev. Zulu Rovers. Dynamos ceased to be when they sold their license to Amazulu. Tembisa Classic ceased to be when they sold their license to Maritzburg United. Thanda Royal Zulu prev. Benoni Premier United and Hellenic, respectively. Thanda later called Ricard's Bay FC (not while on 1st level though (yet)). Bay United previously from Port Elizabeth.
