Germany2

The 2nd level in Germany (then West Germany) was not fully organized until the 1963/64-season when the Bundesliga was installed. From that season up to and including the 1973/74-season the West German 2nd level consisted of 5 regional groups ("Regionalliga"); namely Nord, Berlin, West, Südwest & Süd. The 2. Bundesliga was installed as the 1974/75-season started and the number of groups at 2nd level was cut down to two (Nord & Süd). From the 1974/75-season up to and including the 1980/81-season this was the state of affairs. After that there has been only one 2. Bundesliga group, with the exception of the 1991/92-season when a temporary switch back to two groups (Nord & Süd) was made to make room for teams from former East Germany.
