Updating Locations (formerly Creating Placements)

A placement is one type of location that can begin a removal episode. A placement occurs when a child is removed from his/her home and placed with a resource like a foster family or other residential resource for more than 24 hours. An initial placement also triggers the creation of a IV-E eligibility file in Casebook.

This page describes how to create placements. In Casebook, you can create a placement for a child from either a Case or Assessment page. You can learn about viewing placement history on the Editing Placements.

To Update a Child's Location (Placement)

Scroll to the Placements & Locations Card and click Update Location.

On the Update Locations Pop-Up, Select "Yes, 'child' is being removed." Selecting "No" allows you to create an other location. To learn more visit other locations.

1. A new form appears allowing you to enter the details for this location
  1. 3.1) Select Placement for the type of location.

- 1. 3.2) Select the setting type. Click on the question mark to learn more
  2. about each of the placement types.
  3. 3.3) In the Autocompleter enter the resource or person responsible for the child depending on the setting type you selected in step 2. You can search by the Resource name or ID.
  4. 3.4) Enter the start date and time and reason the child's location is
  5. changing. Note: start date cannot be in the future
  6. Note: For children in a current removal location
  7. If there are additional case or assessment children placed at the same location you have the option to select them to be included in this new placement by clicking the checkbox next to their name.
  8. 3.5) Select the provider's relationship to the child
  9. 3.6) Click Save

  1. Saving a placement without entering all required information results in the following error messages

1. 4.1) A red error popup4.2) A red outlined box appears at the top of the form indicating which information is invalid or missing.4.3) Inline error messages will appear next to any fields which are invalid or missing information
2. A If all entered data is correct a confirmation pop-up appears with a summary of the changes. Click Save to confirm or Back to continue editing the placement
